@trekdrop Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but I seem to recall having an issue like this once that was caused by the file references in the framefile (.txt file) having the wrong case. For example, I might have a media file named
BEG00.VOB.m2v
but inside my framefile the corresponding reference was:2940 beg00.vob.m2v
I am not sure what made me think of it, but I finally noticed the mismatch and thought maybe I was dealing with a case sensitivity problem. So, I renamed my media files to all lowercase and it started working.
Yours could be a totally different problem, but at least you can easily check and eliminate this from possible causes.
looked it up and i have everything right case..
so still the same problem, are you willing to share your setup?

I want to talk about the games that are free that wil automatic download when you install Daphne on a pc
Do you actually have the correct files? I thought Daphne only downloaded 4 games. DL1, DL2, Space Ace & Thayer's Quest as these can be authenticated with commercial media. The other games you need to create your own video, audio and frame file from from the original laser disc source (or download them) along with the correct ROM files. I don't believe any other games are actually downloaded with Daphne. If they are I would imagine they are "zero" byte video, audio & frame files which might explain the blank screen?
-
It's the other way around.. space ace dl 1&2 you need to buy, the others are free.
I found the problem, badlands and other games that i tried will not work on a piehttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Hy2VpPXgs4a9imeu0_w3SpehKEkhUNOLzD1jhcgwS3o/edit#gid=0

badlands
Just out of curiousity, how are these games free? For example, the trademark and copyright for 'Badlands' both seem to be active (Trademarks never expire) and are currently owned by Konami. I looked at a few more and at a glance and they all seem to be protected as well.

Right you need to buy them but Daphne also downloads those four games in encrypted format. You use the commercial media to decrypt the files. At that point you have two copies of the game. One in encrypted format and one that is playable. Daphne is very inefficient with space usage. :)

They aren't free I believe that's why you need to build your files from the original laser disc source or at least own it to download it.
It just happens DL1, DL2, Space Ace and Thayer's Quest have a commercial media counterpart that is used for authentication and decryption. I believe the Daphne author received permission from Digital Leisure to include these games (via torrent) with Daphne. Back in the day you didn't need to authenticate the games. It created ill feelings with some users when they started requiring users to authenticate/decrypt the games to play.
EDIT: I think you need to insert the DVD every time you play or it would be pretty easy to borrow a copy one time for decryption. The other games don't have commercial media and hence don't require you to insert a DVD. The reason they might seem free to play.

Ah, That makes sense. It also puts it back within the legal grey area that almost every other game of this kind shares.

I remember when that happened. It was completely unprecedented at the time. I also remember admiring how progressive the decision was on the part of 'Digital Leisure'. I can honestly say that my respect for their company has influenced me to purchase quite a few of their commercial products over the years.

I was never a part of their forums, but I can definitely imagine the drama it would have caused to the over-privileged masses.

I agree I have most of the DVD versions but I wish they would reprint the Blu-ray versions of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Any used Blu-ray copy for sale now is incredibly priced, most of the time and new is ridiculous. Dragon's Lair 2 is pretty easy to find for a decent price though.

Like I said I don't want to discuss space ace and the other DVD games. I don't want talk about piracy games.
One big question... Do you have badlands running?

I don't have that one working. The ones I have tried that I know work are:
Dragon's Lair (HD version; looks amazing vs. original Daphne version)
Dragon's Lair II
Space Ace (HD version; looks amazing vs. original Daphne version)
Cobra Command
M.A.C.H. 3
Super Don Quix-ote -

Unless you own the original arcade cabinets or at least the laserdiscs that were originally in them, you're still talking about piracy games. However, talking about them isn't illegal, so I wouldn't worry about it as long as you don't facilitate their propagation in any way, such as referencing a download link.

I can add 'Us vs. Them' to that list. That game is too funny. It's like Ed Wood decided to make a flight shooter... and also decided to, you know, stop being dead and all that.

I just verified I can run Bandlands on my Mac. I never bothered to transfer it over to the Pi but I can do so tonight to test it. I don't see why I can't make it work.

Hey Caver I think he is getting the same error that spreadsheet is showing for Daphne on a Pi Trek?
Getting a black screen. Any luck from anyone else? - Getting what look to be writes to invalid addresses in the logfile. Log at http://pastebin.com/VLMhxyH6

I will definitely help in any way I can but I have to reiterate what Mediamogul just said as it seems like that would be stepping across a boundary.
"...as long as you don't facilitate their propagation in any way."
Basically that is half the game as it only consists of .m2v and .ogg files. The key frame (.dat files) are generated at run time automatically. There are no executables or other files and folders.

@Riverstorm's right. The audio belonging to any copyrighted video is also a protected work unto itself. NBC/Universal actually used this distinction to bring 'It's a Wonderful Life' out of the public domain for all uses and purposes. It was discovered that the audio elements were still under protection and even though the moving images remain in the public domain, no one wants to air the film as a silent picture. This is why you couldn't swing a dead cat without finding the movie playing on every channel throughout the holiday season many years ago, whereas today, it's only aired a few times each season on the NBC network.

Well, I ran out of time last night making chocolate truffles. I will try to install Badlands when I get home from work tonight.

A great movie that I try and make a point to watch every year around the holidays. The only thing better would be enjoying the movie with some chocolate truffles! ;)

LJN really missed a trick by not adapting it into a Nintendo game. You could have played as Clarence Odbody, a gaurdian angel who has to follow George Bailey around and prevent him from committing suicide while also having to dodge lightening bolts and foreclosure notices from Mr. Potter.
