@umxp02 Hello thread from long ago :)

I ended up moving to Batocera with my Pi 4 and had no issues with screens at all. I eventually got a Pi 5 for Batocera.

My Pi 4... I repurposed it to run Plex, and don't need a screen since I can control it from my Mac.

Yeah this issue was a brain buster, so I'm happy I moved on.

There are several SF2-roms available for MAME as SF2: The World Warriors, SF2: Champion Edition and many more.
    Which MAME-Version are you running?
Which Version of Retropie are you using?

@luisdent like i said, show us your config file and we can diagnose. there's an extra few lines that helps on some monitors:

    hdmi_max_pixel_freq:0=200000000 hdmi_max_pixel_freq:1=200000000

in addition to a working 1080p mode, which for you may be

    hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=82

ps, can you not SSH in to diagnose via another PC on the network?

Not sure which fixed it, but this made it work properly. It flickers a screen with the terminal/command cursor a few times quickly but i see it and then it displays the appropriate screen following that. So far i've gone in and out of config screens and reboots and it appears to be working now.

    Thanks!!!

Now to fix the performance issues ;-) or i should say optimize. it runs fairly well. :)

@mitu said in One systems sample videos aren't playing:

@bfollowell What video player option are you using in Emulationstation ? omxplayer, the HW accelerated option, has issues with some videos. If you switch off the hw accelerated video, do the videos play ok ?

I really didn't setup a player. I just put the media files in the individual ROMs folders, along with my gamelist.xml file, and the videos showed up and started playing. So, whatever player RetroPie uses by default, and however it is setup.

Actually, before I submitted this, I decided to go and check. I found OMX Player (HW Accelerated) listed under the Main Menu under Other Settings. This was off. I turned it on, and the videos for TG16 start much faster now. There is still a slight delay, but only about a second. I still have no idea why it's only this one system that exhibits this behavior, but I'm happy with it now.

It sounds like to me that EmulationStation is trying to display in a resolution that your livingroom TV doesn't support. Most of the emulators use lower resolutions so that's probably why they display okay.

Have a look at this document:

One big question... Do you have badlands running?

I just tried Bandlands. I cannot get it to work. Same issue. Same weird writes in the log file. Black screen.

I did remove the DAT file and it actually did the parsing just fine and when it first started, I saw a glimpse of the "Wanted" sign, which is the first image you see when the game loads, but after maybe a frame of that video, it went black and stayed black. I exited after waiting 10 minutes or so.

  • New update, new problem.
