Gianna Sisters (C64)
Ghost n Goblins (C64)
Monty on the run (C64)
Ocean Loader`s 1-5 (c64)
i could keep on....

@DorkVonWaterfall There are some great picks! It's strange, I never played C64 or Amiga growing up (I think they were more popular in Europe than in America). Thanks for sharing these! I always thought the Monty on the Run theme was from I Wanna Be the Guy... Silly me!

@felleg It's a slightly different approach, but in my older arcade cabinet that ran on XP using the Maximus Arcade font end, we used to run an ambient arcade track that would loop. It was supposed to sound like the background noise you would hear in a real arcade, so it had 80's hits mixed into a long series of arcade sounds and pinball noises. There was another version that had more updated games instead of just early classics. The looping wasn't an issue because it was so long. Someone spent a lot of time making the mix track. I think you can still find these with a google search.

If anyone wants ogg/mp3 recordings from game music you can download recordings from many systems via my modland interface at http://www.exotica.org.uk/wiki/Special:Modland
eg
Turrican 1/2/3 for Amiga
(There is also a basic Kodi addon for listening to tunes from modland also which comes with Kodi)

@caver01 Very interesting! I found versions of Arcade Ambiance 1981, 1983, 1992, ... on youtube. I don't know if that's the ones you were referring to. I can imagine this sounding amazing in an arcade cabinet!

It really is fantastic. I have a setup on my main computer that mixes the various ambience years into a corresponding randomized jukebox playlist depending on time frame. For an extra element of nostalgia, I made the option to select a further variable of background ambience such as bowling alleys, beach boardwalks and outdoor amusement parks, all equalized to fit the intended space complete with appropriate crowd chatter. I find that it puts me so perfectly in the moment, that my scoring is almost always higher. Talking about it here makes me want to explore a similar option for the Pi.

Yeah, those are quite similar. Actually, back in the day the ones I used had music from the same era as part of the mix, but I have a feeling those are not to be found anymore. The ones you found are good, although they seem a little bit dense with sounds. I remember them being a bit more sparsely loaded, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it makes for a great background soundtrack if you are primarily setup for arcade games like me.

beach boardwalks
If I could take the ambiance of the Wildwood boardwalk, and play it through the pi. That would be lovely.

Wildwood is legendary. I would have loved to visit Dracula's Castle.

@mediamogul On the topic of Wildwood, Sam's Pizza or Macks?
(Everyone else will be wondering what we are talking about)

Sam's Pizza or Macks?
Hah! Like Republicans and Democrats, G.I. Joe and Cobra, or even Captain & Tennille, one couldn't exist without the other. However, I gotta side with Sam's. Cheddar on a pie is as egregious to my senses as "Muskrat Love".

@mediamogul Sams with a bucket of Curley Fries. While playing games in Gateway 26.

I know this doesn't have much to do with retro gaming music but I still think that Borderlands soundtracks are worth mentioning. I like the ambient feeling.
