People who've played Valkyrie Profile on pcsx rearmed - How did you disc swap? (save file problem)
-
I hope I'm not missing something obvious here, but usually with multidisc psx games it lets you save your data at the end of a disc and by renaming the srm file you can pick up where you left off - but with Valkyrie Profile, no such save prompt ever appeared. So I have no idea how to do an "end of the disc" - save.
The latest I can save is before the Sacred Phase cutscene and right after that it asks for disc 2 without letting me save. Renaming the save file, booting disc 2 and loading that save simply results in it asking for disc 1 again. I even tried save stating at the disc swap screen and renaming it... Didn't work.
Any experiences with this?

You're best bet with multi-disc PSX games are to use the EBOOT format (which is what the PSP uses to play PSX games):
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/playstation-1#multi-disc-games-or-cd-image-not-working
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4335/psx-single-track-roms/12The EBOOT format basically puts all the discs into 1 file and the pcsx-rearmed emulator(s) support it.

I looked into it and things were looking great, even my save data worked fine on the new eboot file. However, the game still asks for disc 2 at the same point and basically freezes there. How annoying. Googling gave me a lot of results of people having trouble getting through this part on any emulator; I guess this game is simply a bit of a problem child when it comes to getting onto the second disc... Or am I supposed to do something, for example via retroarch, when the prompt appears?

I found this here:
http://blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/best-way-for-psx-multidisc-games/To Swap a disk:
- First, press and hold your hotkey button and the button you have set for "input_disk_eject_toggle". With this the virtual PSX disc tray is opened.
- Then with the button for "input_disk_next" select the image that you want to load.
- Last, press the "input_disk_eject_toggle" button again to close the tray.
You don’t need to restart the game or emulator. The game will automatically find the new selected image.
You can bind these 2 buttons here:
nano /opt/retropie/configs/psx/retroarch.cfg
# Toggles eject for disks. Used for multiple-disk content. input_disk_eject_toggle = # Cycles through disk images. Use after ejecting. # Complete by toggling eject again. input_disk_next =

Thanks a ton. I didn't even have to do the bindings because the disk control options are easily accessible in the retroarch quick menu. I found it by accident when I tried to figure out how to do it; turns out I was pretty close... The only thing I missed was that I was supposed to swap the disk input in between ejecting and closing the virtual tray.
Thanks so much for helping, you managed to find the missing pieces to my puzzle.
