Ridge Racer Revolution PSX emu - controller not working in game
-
Hey everyone, first post here. I've done my best tinkering around and got my settings just about perfect, with the exception of one particularly challenging issue. For whatever reason, the controller works for Ridge Racer Revolution menus and options (car & track selection), but when the racing starts there's no response from the controller.
I've done some reading and it sounds like older PSX games (i.e., pre-dualshock era) won't work unless the options are set a certain way. I found this thread, which maybe could solve my issues, but the level of discussion makes my head spin: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2565/retropie-psx-emulator-only-1-controller-works/27
I'm fairly proficient at bouncing around the confusing UI in Retropie and Retroarch, but nothing I do seems to fix my problem.
I have an FTP setup and I can go in and modify config files pretty easily.
I've done some CLI sudo nano stuff, but I really need the instructions written out explicitly or else I get lost.
So, can anyone out there help me?
Tl;Dr- My controller won't work on an older PSX game and my technical knowledge isn't quite far along enough to understand related threads. I'm seeking concise instructions on how to resolve this issue.

is this enough? https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/playstation-1#analog-controller-type
your controller type should be set to 'standard' for pre-analog games. this can be done via the file or the retroarch GUI.
you also need to ensure you have a BIOS installed

@dankcushions thanks for the prompt response. I checked my retroarch-core-options.cfg and it looks like pad1type - pad8type are all set to "standard".
It sounds like the BIOS thing might be my problem because I don't know anything specifically about that. Is that one of the package install/manage options from Retropie config?

@J_Dubbs https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/playstation-1#bios :)
you'll need to find one though as it's not distributed with retropie.

@dankcushions wow, thanks! I never would have known to do that... I found a copy of SCPH1001.BIN and FTP'd it into /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS. Copying over a few more things then will reboot and report back!
