Is there a way to have a default bezel overlay set in Mame2003 for games without a specific one?

I have arcade bezel overlays working on my Retropie using the very helpful instructions in Gloob's Youtube video and using John Merrit's awesome bezel overlays (http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8288)

When I play a game that has a specific arcade bezel overlay configured it runs fine, but then if I play a game with no specific one set it just uses whatever the last one was that was displayed. For example, if I play Donkey Kong and then some random mahjong game it will show the Donkey Kong arcade overlay for the mahjong game.

Does anyone know if there's a setting to use a default overlay (or even no overlay) for games that don't have a corresponding .cfg file?

      Thanks!

        @SkittleBrau79

        Hi,

I had a similar problem - after playing a game with an overlay, all subsequent games without their own overlay used the last one.

        I mentioned it here:

        https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/6084/mame-row-12-frenzy/45

@pjft helpfully told me to switch off the "Configuration Save on Exit" option in RetroArch.

I did this, but it didn't initially resolve the issue:

Turns out I had to make the change for each emulator individually, which I just did by manually editing the cfg files:

A bit convoluted, but it solved the problem!

          +1 on what @GtBFilms stated.

If you're just looking to change the arcade ones, you should just need to edit the config files for

          /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
          /opt/retropie/configs/arcade/retroarch.cfg

          (or /fba/ or /mame-libretro, I suppose)

Those paths may be incorrect, but I'm at work at the moment so I don't have my Pi with me.

You will benefit from editing all the emulator cfg files, though, as if one other system sets the overlay differently, it will then be defaulted to that one, and the options to save configuration on exit will be set to true again.

Thanks for the mention! Hope you're doing great.

@pjft @GtBFilms Thanks to both of you. I've got the retroarch.cfg files set up correctly now and all is right with the world!
