Retropie detects Ps2 2 player controller adapter as 1 controller

I'm a little bit lost here. I made a PiStation and soldered a PS2 controller adapter to the original psx ports. The problem is that retropie only detects 1 controller. Both ports are working, but it detects them as one big controller. Tried adding usbhid.quirks=0xXXXX:0xXXXX:0x040 to the cmdline.txt but didn't work. Any ideas?
