      Re: Emulationstation does not run

I am having a similar issue. I am certain i have the correct image, but after i go into retropie set up and run the basic install upon rebooting it will always open to that command prompt with the ascii art logo. Ive tried running emulation station from there but it just flashes some text too fast for me to read and im left with a Pi@retropie:~$_ over a blank screen. I cant find mention of this issue in documentation. Was i not supposed to run the basic install?

        Bingo!

It's probably best if you start over with a fresh image. There's no need to run basic install as the image has a number of popular emulators pre-installed. Once your Pi has booted, you can begin to add your roms and, if an individual emulator you require isn't installed, then you can do so from the RetroPie Setup script.

Before you begin with a new image, it may be worth seeing if EmulationStation threw out any error messages. You can find a log in the file /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_log.txt.

I see, thanks for the help! I do wonder why basic install seems to goof it though.
