Let me start off by saying... damn.

Just got my first RP3 unit and I am just blown away by what these little things can do and what you guys created for the EmulationStation.

      RetroPie Ver: 4.2
( Sorry, don't know any other kind of information you guys might need?)

So my problem is that I am trying to play FF VIII but am running into a problem.

For anyone who knows the game you know you have to hold down the SELECT button during a Guardian Force summons to use the Boost ability. I can't do this currently.

I am using a Xbox 360 Wireless Controller and (I think) I have it all setup right. When I launch the game it says 100% Xbox 360 Configured or something in the bottom left corner so I imagine that means its configured properly.

But when I press SELECT it flashes the boost button for a millisecond but then goes away. The SELECT button it acting as just a input of 0/1 on or off instead of a fixed signal of "THIS IS HELD DOWN" which is what I need.

Do I need to do some kind of configuring to change how the SELECT button reacts or something?

      Thanks!

@RDaugherty Please provide more information when posting - eg which emulator. We detail in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first what information we want. Assuming lr-pcsx-rearmed, you may have to remap the retroarch hotkey to another button. Alternatively you could try the standalone pcsx-rearmed emulator which doesn't have the hotkey functionality.

eg by switching input_enable_hotkey_btn just for that emulator (or specifically for that rom). https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/

@BuZz said in Final Fantasy VIII / Select Button:

I apologize for the ill-formatted post.

But yeah the emulator is lr-pcsx-rearmed

Now I assumed when I went into the configuration of the (ROM/Emulator??) that I could setup custom mapping but I didn't see any option to do that.

If I start the Game -> Press A For Configuration -> Edit RetroRoach for this ROM there is nothing in that menu, it's completely empty.

But I have gone into the File Manager and found the config for the Xbox 360 and seen that "input_enable_hotkey_btn" part. It's currently at... 8.. I think? So with my controller if I switch that to something else how do I set the SELECT button to do what I need it to do in game?

@RDaugherty get the id of another button from the config, and put that in the per rom config - eg input_enable_hotkey_btn = "9", so now another button will be hotkey, and select will work. The reason why select isn't working is because it's used for triggering retroarch hotkeys.
