Buttons & Joysticks not recognized. Please help me!
-
Hello, I recently purchased a bartop arcade online. It runs off of the newest and latest version Raspberry Pi. (I know in the rules it says to not say the latest, I'm a 100% NOOB and I don't know what version it is. The seller told me it's the latest and newest. Apologies!!) Anyways the arcade worked 100% perfect until my brother did not shut down the arcade and just unplugged it. When I turned the arcade back on, only one joystick is recognized and none of the buttons. When I hook a keyboard up I press F4 and go to a black screen where I can type. What do I type to configure all of my buttons on the arcade? None of them are recognized. I need to be able to press the "start" button so that I can configure my buttons. The start button and all the others are no longer recognized. Please help me, I have searched many hours with no solution. If anyone can resolve this matter, I'll gladly donate to this website for helping me. Thank you.

@michael40475 Since you read the rules at https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first , you know there's no support for 3rd party images, distributed - or worse, sold - with the hardware.
Since you're running an arcade, the configuration is highly customized and dependant on the type of controllers you have installed, so it's not trivial to reconfigure the input controllers - even if you'd be a versed user.Ask the seller for support, it may provide you with a readily configured image that you can flash back to the sd card and have your controlls running.

@mitu The seller will not respond back to me on eBay, that's why I came on here for help. Sorry if its against policy to ask for help here about my issue. I would of been very happy to donate to this website for help. I guess, I should of read more thoroughly on the rules before posting. Thank you

hi, you should be able to go to retropie entry in the main screen with the keyboard, there are some config options there. You should find the emulationstation entry. Inside there's a option to reset/clean the controller configs. When you do this the next boot you'll be asked to long press a button to configure the controller. Configure the controller 1. Next you can press start button to configure the other controller.
This is standard emustation behavior, I dont know if the vendor did something different in the app. -
@rogeriol How do I go to retropie entry in the main screen with the keyboard? What buttons do I press on keyboard?

yeah, I just saw here the keyboard doesnt work in the main menu (arrows, enter, nothing) not very helpful
I can only think one way to solve this: grab a third controller (USB wired), disconnect the ones in the system and connect this. In the boot you should be able to configure it. Then go to the emulationstation settings and clean/erase controllers as I described before. Shut it down, connect the normal controllers and the config should appear.
EDIT: BTW you can configure the keyboard if you disconnect the controllers and boot. No need for an extra controller.
You should also be able to access the start menu with the keyboard and connect the controllers with the system on and reconfigure them, without the need to clean the config. -
@michael40475 You could do the same way most people do here: burn a clean Retropie image into another SD Card, put into your RPi, put your games on it and enjoy.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
