      I have the retropie 4.4 stretch image running fine when hooked up thru HDMI, but when connecting audio thru the 3.5 audio jack there is noticeable sound distortions when scrolling through games. Background music is enabled using attract mode, here is where the sound glitches come when moving scrolling through games. Videos seem to play fine but leaving pi on for extended time sound will eventually cut out all together. I tried same image on 3 pi b+ and 1 pi B... All same result.
      Is there some audio setting I can change in a config file? Is this a driver issue. Also is OXM the default music/video player for Pi3?
      Any help is appreciated... I have 3 cabs these are going in, thought a overclocked B+ would be the logical upgrade but now appears to be big problems...

        Seems similar to https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17864/raspberry-pi-ridiculously-slow-when-splashscreen-service-is-enabled. Modify the /boot/config.txt and add

        audio_pwm_mode=0

        then restart and check if it fixes your problem.

          I had a similar problem with sound distortion and background noise, but with a totally different cause. I am building a cabinet, and the amplifier and speakers are above the monitor, with the Pi below it. My audio cable was passing close to the transformer in the monitor, and as the transformer wasn’t well shielded. I picked up a lot of electrical noise. Just rerouting the audio cable away from the transformer solved my issue.
