      @mitu Thanks! By total chance I just found the same thing. I don't know why that configuration menu is not mentioned in the retropie docs. Hopefully this post will help someone else in the future

      @Clyde said in Audio question:

      @RpiBeginner You could try to add this to the file /boot/config.txt to improve the analog sound from the 3.5 mm jack:

      audio_pwm_mode=2

      It changes to a new (still experimental?) audio driver. My audio via the 3.5 mm jack improved significantly with it. It won't change anything for HDMI audio, as I guess it won't for an external USB audio card which should have its own drivers.

      You can find this and some other tips at https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Sound-Issues under "White Noise Fix".

      This worked great for me, although I did order a USB sound thing. I can try that out too. Thank you

      @quicksilver It might be... However it's connected to an hdmi monitor. As I mentioned, the hiss is slightly more audible when I use, CRT for an example, when the metadata is scrolling. It was less audible when I switched to the Pixel theme.

      I have this problem each time and have to remember to set it both in retropie and using the raspbian tools. Oh, and remember to turn up the volume on my amplifier :)

      Seems similar to https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17864/raspberry-pi-ridiculously-slow-when-splashscreen-service-is-enabled. Modify the /boot/config.txt and add

      audio_pwm_mode=0

      then restart and check if it fixes your problem.

      yes! adding that line worked, thanks for the tip!
