Anyone use this hack on their setup? I have the ROM, but it does not work with SNES in Retropie.

Have you tested it with any emulators outside of RetroArch/RetroPie?

Edit: If you're unable to test outside of RetroPie, make sure the 'Super Mario Kart' base ROM has a CRC32 of CD80DB56.

Yes, I use it and it works on my machine. Did you patch the rom yourself? You need the correct rom version. As mediamogul pointed out, you can test the rom version by checking its checksum. But I don't recommend CRC32, as many programs do calculate CRC32 differently (its by design). I recommend using MD5 checksum.

Thanks guys, I ended up finding a pre-patched ROM. I may have the wrong Mario Kart base ROM.

For anyone in the future looking to make use of MD5, the checksum for the 'Super Mario Kart' ROM needed here is 7f25ce5a283d902694c52fb1152fa61a.

@mediamogul In addition to this valuable information, here is the link where you can get the patch.
              https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3129/

Most common problems with roms to patch are that they can have some meta information like mp3 files do. Those meta information are called header and roms come with header or no header and the patches requires the one or the other.

Looking there, I notice that it lists cd80db56 as being the CRC hash check. However, I ran crc32 myself on a verified ROM and comes to cd80db86. Is this potentially an example of the discrepancy in CRC checks you mentioned, or do you figure it's just a typo, as only one number is off? Also, if you happen to know, what are the reasons for the discrepancies between how programs calculate CRC sums?

It might be an typo there. Different CRC32 programs are calculating it differently. I don't remember about why, but found the information because my CRC never matched what I got from these sites. There is just no really standard way to do it. I just re searched about it to find a site explaining it than ever could.

Does that make my Mario Kart backup ROM not any good? I mean.. it works?

I always patch games that I've verified myself just to be sure. Also, if there's multiple revisions of a patch, I like to make sure I'm using the latest. Looking at the release page, it appears as though there's only ever been one release. If it's working fine for you, you're probably good to go.

@greenhawk84 It could be a bad dump or just a different version of the game, in example regional difference. The patch just requires a specific version of that rom, otherwise it can't patch it correctly.
