Input waits before working when launching a game.
-
This is a weird one. Whenever I run a game on the pi, there is a delay of around 30 seconds before the emulation picks up my input. This includes the hotkeys for exiting the game (start+select) as well as any game input at all. It also doesn't matter whether I'm using the keyboard or controller and it doesn't matter which emulator I launch. After this delay, everything works fine and is very responsive like normal until I exit and run another game. I can't figure why it would do this.
I'm running retropie 4.4 with the Showcase ES theme.

Did you configure the launch image delay in Runcommand ? What emulator/game ? -

That's the first thing I thought of. Unless that's not what they're talking about. Maybe they mean "in game" as in they're forced to watch the attract reel for each game.

@IanDaemon I'm not sure what you mean by attract wheel. The issue is that the game will launch just fine. ROM checks happen, title screen comes up and I'll be at the point where I should press a button or insert coin or whatever the game needs me to do to play it. It's at this point where I still do not have any control from keyboards or controllers. It takes a moment, then it starts working. I've never set a launch delay command. I've never messed with any launch settings. What is the first thing to check in this case?

Ah, I meant "attract reel" as in what the game shows when no one is standing at the controls. Games normally try to "attract" potential players with show pre-recorded footage. And "reel" as in "movie reel" like back in the day when motion cameras still used film.So it sounds as if you are past the launching of the game so the "launch delay command" wouldn't be the cause. I believe at this point the frontend (i.e. Emulation Station) has given sole control to the emulator so that's where I would look for the actual cause. The emulator is delaying (or not registering) inputs? Might it be an issue with RetroArch?

@IanDaemon i found that when I'm in game and I bring up the retroarch menu, I can't move anything in the UI. The cursor will not move with keyboard or controller. I'm stuck there until I hard reset the pi because I have no input. I thought about a reinstall but I spent a lot of time scraping and setting up and I'd hate to have to do it all again.
