What am I doing wrong?
-
@NurseAngela Hey we all start somewhere. A few months ago I was in the same situation as you are now...Luckily the forum is very helpful.
I'm not a pro on the rom set, so I will leave that to someone else. Though, If you only have a few MAME roms, then you can try using a different MAME emulator, again you can install them with the instructions above. Then on booting the rom when it says press A, Press the A button and change the emulator for the at rom and launch.
-
I have a pi 4 and downloaded a few Roms from MAME but most are not working, a few do and the other consoles seem to be ok but the majority of mame ones don’t seem to load.
Arcade emulation is a bit more complicated - start at https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/ and make sure you're adding the proper ROMsets for your emulator.
I’m mainly trying to get wwf wrestling for my son.
Odd choice.
Also I downloaded a game for the PlayStation 1 amd Sega cd and I put it in the psx folder (And Sega cd folder) but they not showing up on the retropie screen.
Each system has it's own page in the documentation, make sure you copy the right files with the proper extension to each system's folder:
Note that both system need additional BIOS files to be copied to the
BIOS
folder, in addition to the disc images themselves. -
@Krakatoa I didn’t know you could change the emulator also!! Thank you for your help and advice it’s really appreciated when I get home I’ll have to have a proper play around with it. Guy in my local pc store said for £20 he would set it up properly for me but I just can’t afford that.
-
@mitu I agree wrestling games are a very odd choice.
Thank you for your help I know nothing about these systems so is it all explained about BIOS etc on the instructions?
-
@NurseAngela yes it is all in the Docs on the site for each system.
as @mitu said arcade is bit more complicated. so its best to start with the consoles. and work your way from there.
and as always just ask here. the people are great and are always willing to help out

Thank you I really appreciate that.

I have just looked at the installation folder and under ‘manage main packages’ it says Ir-pcsx-rearmed (installed - via binary)
Does that mean I already have it installed? Is it just the rom I need to check?

Yes, both the Sega CD and Playstaton 1 emulators are already installed on a RetroPie image.
-
@mitu the Rom I downloaded for ps1 was a .rar file I’m guessing that’s wrong!
Also the ROMs I am downloading for mame are zip files and I don’t have to unzip these do I? I just drop them in the mame folder?
-
@NurseAngela if you extract the .rar file using winrar or whatever you use on your PC, you may find that the files within are a supported format. see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/ for supported formats

mame supports .zip, but if you're downloading individual ROM files for MAME, are you sure they are the right romset version? see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/

@dankcushions thank you for your reply I really don’t know how to check that they are the right Rom set version (so sorry I’m really not clever at all!)
I opened the zip file for the ps1 game and it said disk image file on it???
-

no problem! but rather than check the files you have, i would seek out a complete romset collection for the emulator you're using. we can't give any specific links, obviously.

are you using windows? i think by default it hides known file extensions by default - you can change that via https://www.howtogeek.com/205086/beginner-how-to-make-windows-show-file-extensions/
however, i would guess that it's a support format when you extract it, so just move the extracted files across and try, if you're feeling lucky :)
-
@dankcushions that’s so helpful thank you. I’m guessing a full Rom set is a few games bundled together that are suitable for the emulator?
-
@NurseAngela with MAME the full romset is essentially every game MAME supported at that time. the full set is 10GB+, depending on the MAME emulator you're using. however, the source you find may allow you to download individual games from the romset version. good luck!
-
@dankcushions I am using lr-mame2003 (I think as that is the one that was already loaded) so I would just search for lr-mame2003 Romset and see what it returns? I realise I am a pain, honestly if you ever need any help that is health related I promise I’ll be happy to advise you!!
-
@NurseAngela that search gives me a good result, so yes - do that :)
if you ever need any help that is health related I promise I’ll be happy to advise you!!
haha! thanks for the offer - please find attached a photo of my rash :D

Ha ha you will need a certain type of clinic for that type rash!
-
@dankcushions I have found a site that has Rom sets but it has a lot of different numbers like mame 0.61 and mame 0.139 to 0.140 update pack.
Are these numbers for the version of mame I am running and if so how do I find that out please and do I need a main download and an update pack? Thank you
-
@NurseAngela please see step 2 here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/ (second column in the table)
it also details what kind of pack you're looking for. i can't instruct on particular websites.
-
@dankcushions no I wouldn’t ask you to and thank you it’s really helping me and I promise no more questions (for tonight at least)
