EmulationStation error when using 4nes4snes
-
Some of you may be aware of the wonderful work of Ralphnet and his 4nes4snes controller to USB converter (http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/4nes4snes/index_en.php).
I recently built one, and it's working quite perfectly on PC and Mac. But i'm having the strangest of errors when I use it with RetroPie.
Whenever I launch a game, and then exit the emulator, i'm greeted by a black screen. I know EmulationStation is still working, and if I press A again, a game launches because i never exited the game select screen. There's just a black screen blocking EmulationStation itself.
If I launch a game, unplug the 4nes4snes adapter, plug in a single normal USB controller and exit EmulationStation, everything works fine.
I've seen people using this adapter before without any problems with retropie. So, what could be the problem? Maybe having 4 controllers at the same time? (because the adapter transforms 1 USB connection into 4 joysticks).
Thanks for your replies.

@silviustro there is a fix you need to do with this adapter. Do a search on here for raphnet fix. There is a guide on how to do it. Not sure why you are getting a black screen, but run this fix. Then see what happens.

@edmaul69 thanks for your answer, I'll check it out and report back.

@edmaul69 Is this the fix you're talking about? https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4516/how-to-apply-raphnet-kernel-patch-to-fix-northwest-drift
-
@silviustro yes.
-
@edmaul69 The kernel patch worked! thanks! What i still don't understand why is this still an issue with newer retropie images, as they have a newer kernel that should solve the problem...

@silviustro im not sure what has to be done but raphael has to do something to get it added to linux. This actually fixes it for a lot of controllers. I use it on my apple iie pi because the apple iie keyboard adapter is also seen as a joystick even though it has no useability as a joystick. This actually fixes a problem that exists in linux. I had found this issue when modding an nes with a pi. After talking to raph, he was awesome enough to find the problem in linux and made this fix. It has saved me on several occasions.

@edmaul69 I guess adding it to linux itself is a bit complicated. But he could talk to the RetroPie guys and add it to the kernel, as most people will be using his adapter with it. Both Windows and Mac don't seem to have any problems recognizing the adapter. To be honest, it's the first time I've seen such an adapter, one that splits one USB cable into 4 HIDs. Ralph sure did a wonderful job.

@silviustro yeah buzz mentioned something he had to do to add it to linux. Raph has added other fixes that are now in linux so im not sure why this one hasnt been added. He does make awesome adapters.
Here are some great adapters also made by a guy named tom. Several of his adapters use several different controllers. These are awesome adapters.
