Quick Setup Arcade X-Men Vs Street Fighter

@TMNTturtlguy lol
-
The worst part of all this is that now I can't get this superbly lousy movie out of my head.
-
@dankcushions ok, so I think I've followed those guides, and still cannot seem to get the unzipped xmvsf rom to boot... notice anything I've done wrong?
using this system, with retropie preloaded (I've updated it to the latest version):
CENSORED LINK
downloaded xmvsf.zip from CENSORED
inserted fat32 USB into Raspberry Pi
inserted USB back into MacBook
unzipped and dragged xmvsf folder into (Pi created) roms folder in retropie folder on USB
inserted USB into Raspberry Pi
reset emulation station
game not there :(
... do I need to drag the xmvsf folder into any particular folder inside roms folder on USB? like fba or arcade?
do I need to update noobs?
do I need to get xmvsf file from a different source?
-
@dankcushions by the way, on the main retropie screen it has a bar under the 3 retropie logos that says CONFIGURATION. I haven't been asked to login as yet, is this something I need to address?

yes:
- buy an unlicensed retropie product
- unzipped the a mame rom
- put it in wrong place
- mentioned the place you downloaded the rom
- wrong romset
:)
-
@dankcushions it's an unlicensed retropie product? really? how is that possible from a reputed supplier?
I wasn't supposed to unzip the xmvsf.zip file?
where am I supposed to put it?
sorry I mentioned the place I downloaded the rom :(
what is the right romset please?
-
Lol

@TMNTturtlguy you are a vastly superior, yet humble genius. well done
-
vastly superior, yet humble genius.
It's funny how one image can sum all that up, but it's all there isn't it?
-
you know, @mediamogul and @TMNTturtlguy, if you guys had given me the help I originally asked for, on the help forum, this conversation would have been over a day ago, and you both could have gone back to your obviously superior lives...
-
@dankcushions OK I'm downloading the romset you suggested, I clearly didn't read this reply properly. it was a 16gb card by the way. cheers

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.
-William W. Wonka, Esq.There has indeed been a bit of back and forth on your original question and that's what I actually found to be somewhat funny to begin with. However, it has been addressed, despite the information being readily available in the official documentation. Nine out of ten times we'd just refer you to the relevant link, but I like to believe we were aiming for a higher level of human interaction rarely seen in this fast-paced, straight to voice mail, TV dinner world we're living in. Are we progressive thinkers? Maybe. Heroes? OK, but those are your words. However, no one would would argue that we're easily the least expensive form of support you're likely to find.
-
@mediamogul I must acknowledge that I am coming from a completely Pi-ignorant perspective, and probably haven't been helpful to this process, but experienced, knowledgeable users are replying to my question simply to tell me that I got ripped off, and you are posting completely unrelated movie facts... I'm all for silliness, but that is not support, so the cost of it is irrelevant... @dankcushions though has been great. I'm hoping we can all move on from this as stronger people, and that I have a long and fruitful Raspberry Pi career

@sadtraxx I think if i'd sooner realised you had brought a pre-loaded system I wouldn't have been so helpful :) what you have to understand is: you're paying someone else for this community's hard work, and then coming back to this community for help when it doesn't work.
i'm sure you didn't realise this when you bought it, but the end result is the same; they're getting paid for our voluntary work, and then getting their customers to come to us for free support. the best thing you can do is reinstall your system with the official image, as per https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation - then we can at least know what you have and how to support it.
for example, the romset i suggest you get will only work on current versions of retropie, which i guess you won't have.
-
@dankcushions I totally didn't realise, I thought the Raspberry Pi was a copyrighted/trademarked product... maybe I will return it
-
@dankcushions could you please shoot me a link to purchase the correct system? I am in Australia
-
@sadtraxx Hey man, in all seriousness, I do like to help people, and if you are willing to be cool and start fresh i am good with that.
You have everything you need right now to start fresh and do it the correct way. First thing is to download sd formater, or any other formater and reformat your SD card they provided you. sd formater
Then download the official and free retropie image from this site: download link You will want to download the pi2/3 image.
Then download 7-zip download link
Unzip the retropie image
Then download Win32 DiskImager download Link
Use win32diskimager to write the image to the SD card.
When that is complete, put the SD card into your pi and you have an official retropie install and we will all be very excited and happy to help you.
Refer to the docs here: Docs Link for all the info i just shared above as well as step by step instructions on how to load roms, set up your keyboard and controller, and everything else you need to know to get started. It should go a lot smoother for you if you take this approach. I guarantee if you take the time to do this, we can get your street fighter game running in no time!

@TMNTturtlguy looks like I have a late night ahead of me! thanks for that info, very much appreciated. peace

Once you finish doing what TMNTturtlguy says to do, when you have a FBA rom (if you downloaded the romset dank told you to download) you put all those ZIPPED files into the folder FBA under ROMS.
Once you do that, you are done. you can boot up any rom. You do not unzip arcade roms, their compressed for a reason. You also cannot put MAME roms in FBA emulator folder and visa versa. so make sure you get the right rom set.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
