      update -

i retired the 1600x1200 screen from 2007 (LP2065, which is the same panel as the 2007FP) and switched to my main 1080p monitor i use for the MiSTer - Acer Nitro XF243Y (https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xf243y-pbmiiprx).

there wasnt anything wrong with the LP2065, but after doing a swap and test with my gaming monitor, it was apparent the monitor from 2007 doesnt hold up well in 2023. while very sharp and 4:3, the response time seemed sluggish compared to the Acer, almost like the LP2065 was on a slight video delay.

and the overall input lag experience was noticeable. the reported input lag of a LP2065 panel is ~16ms at 60hz

and the XF243Y is ~9ms at 60hz (see rtings review). while thats not too much of a difference in actual input lag, when combined with the almost instant response time of the XF243Y, the LP2065 just "feels" old.

also better colors on the Acer, and its an LED panel so it uses way less power and doesnt get hot. i am happy

@pm4698 said in Create custom arcade console:

In case i want to seal this arcade box, does raspberry support so many controller inputs? (2 USB-joystick-button controllers, 2 normal USB controllers, 2 light gun controllers and 2 wheel controllers?)

Not sure on the light gun part but I would assume so, I use the ipac (mini) as well with sanwa joysticks and gold leaf buttons from ultimarc. I've used the inexpensive stuff on amazon also but nothing compares to the ultimarc IMO. The only thing with the sanwa's is going from 8way to 4way switching for games like Donkey Kong as the switching is under the panel. I tried using other joysticks that switch at the top and just didn't like them (mag-stik being one of them). I did get the sanwa working with a servo (servo-stik) for auto switching however my control panel did not have room to fit the servo... I used a toggle switch to move the restrictor plate. You can also set the rom bootup to change to the correct setting but I opted for a manual switch.

I use the arcade sticks for mame games, and usb wired xbox360 like controllers for nes/genesis etc. Some nes/genesis games I use the arcade sticks as well, Works great either way. I don't remember if I ever got genesis 4 player games working with arcade sticks and usb controllers together, IIRC I had to use 4 usb controllers was something with the multi-tap in genesis but I only have 1 friend so it's not a problem normally lol.

You will need a powered usb hub as you wont have enough ports for everything.

MDF is what I used for a small 2p bartop, going to do a 4 player pedestal next using MDF again.

@Yornav No for Retroarch cores, as far as I know. Maybe for some version of advancemame, but I have not look at it. They will work if you compile the latest standard mame, but it will run very slowly on the Raspberry.

I know why I was getting that weird error now, it was related to having '&' in the name of a game. My example didn't help matters seeing as I didn't type '&'.

The list it generates still doesn't have the games I haven't picked, for example say the arcade rom folder has 300 games and the gamelist.xml file lists 200 roms. There's still 100 games that I have to manually pick in order for them to appear in the gamelist.xml file.

Thanks for all the help everyone I've learned a great deal from all your input.

@dnbarnes1983 Emulationstation is a general game launcher frontend - it's also used by Recalbox. You didn't specify in any of your posts you have RetroPie installed and which version.

@dlesko250 said in Sound stopped working for just Arcade games in Arcade rom folder/all other rom types work.:

it's mixed rom set in the arcade folder. It's not separated into MAME or FBA.

So, you're launching multiple emulators from the arcade directory and they're all without sound? Narrowing down which you're using is still important. Keep in mind, there's something like nine versions of MAME to choose from when using it the way you are and three versions of FBA.

@jblock22 On the bright side, you do have what sounds like a Pi3, which is a supported computer, you have a cabinet someone built with arcade controls, USB ports, a display, and a nice enough design that you were interested in buying it. A build project with just this hardware alone is a serious undertaking, and getting one that looks nice enough to sell is no small feat. Depending on how it was built, you might also have a controls interface of some kind.

Now, the software is the real questionable part of all of this, but you can easily re image the SD card with a known working image from this website and join the community. You will need to open up your system and do some investigating into what exactly you have which might entail some google searching as well, but once you know what you have and you are willing to work with it, you can probably turn this in to a great system. It will take work and interest, but it can be a fun hobby.

Maybe that is not why you bought it, but there could be a silver lining.

@TMNTturtlguy I am indeed swapping out all of my FBA roms to the new version. I was under the impression that there could be problems using old roms with newer FBA, and it is best to update to the corresponding romset?

@sadtraxx What they meant was that you don't unzip the roms themselves, maybe there was some miscommunication.

The files you're expected to have in the folder must match these:

@thedeathstar It certainly isn't the point to keep going over the same material again and again no. It may have been better to perhaps say "Please read the arcade documentation." though - which is what herb really meant.

It's frustrating because people don't even bother to read the information on registering - users are asked to agree to read the sticky topic then, and they don't. We only ask that users try to help themselves first a little - so our time can be used more efficiently.
