LCD Display Help
-
Hey guys! Having some trouble, so I'm looking for some help.
I'm working on putting together my first real Pi build, but I'm having trouble setting up my display.
I have a custom image that works perfectly on my TV, but when I connect it to my LCD display it boots for a couple seconds and then the screen turns black. I'm not sure where the issue is. Anyone have any ideas?
My power supply seems to be giving enough power (no lightning bolt), and I've even tried with two power supplies, one in the pi and one in the adapter board.
I'm using the official Raspberry Pi 7" Touchscreen display (I'm aware touch functionally doesn't work with Retropie, that's fine. I'm just looking for it to function as a monitor). It's attached via DSI ribbon and four jumper cables to the GPIO pins.
It should also be mentioned that when the Pi is removed from the display, it works just fine on my TV still. Also, I have an SD card with Raspbian installed and it runs perfectly. So it seems to be a problem strictly with Retropie.
I did some research and added "ignore_lcd=0" to /boot/config.txt and still nothing.
Anyone run into this issue, or have any clue what the problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@jamesdeadite Try editing
/boot/config.txt
and add thishdmi_force_hotplug=1
This fix has worked for me when the screen is not powered externally. Just make sure that your power supply is sufficient. That screen needs around 0.5A. If you are connecting other stuff then >2.5A is probably needed. -
@rbaker thanks for the feedback. I added that line to the config file and it didn't do anything.
I'm beginning to think that it could be a power issue. My power supply is 2.5a. I have the pi, screen, and a USB dongle for a keyboard hooked up.
My only question. Could it really be a power issue if I'm not seeing the yellow lightning bolt? Also, why is the power sufficient for Raspbian but not Retropie?
Sorry for the noob question. I'm new to this and trying to learn. Thank you so much.

i have a sort of similar issue... i have 1 PS for my 10.1 display, and 1 for the Pi. they both go in to an extension cord.
If i power both of them at the same time the display doesnt come on. its like the display isnt recognizing the pi for a while.
I have to essentially power the screen off, then back on again before it works.
id love to be able to power both on at the same time without these issues. -
I ended up finding a solution. A fresh image seemed to have solved all the issues. Not entirely sure why, but I think it may have something to do with the way my GPIO pins were set for the Borkin button.
Hate having to start over, but it's nice to be up and operating again!
