The new Raspberry Pi 4 is here!!
-
@dankcushions he did an overclocking video and it was so bad and obviously for views.
He did over_voltage=2 and then two lines later did over_voltage=4, thus overwriting the first one.
-
@Bearwynn and in the videos I saw (dont know about his latest) he says nothing about proper stability testing. A lot of people out there just copy paste what they see him do and then wonder why their pi is freezing/crashing all the time.
-
@quicksilver He reviewed the GPi case, and everyone went and bought it. Then some users started complaining about an audio noise issue.
Turns out, Lon.TV reviewed the case too at about the same time as ETA Prime, but he really went into detail about that issue and I just dodged a freaking bullet thanks to that. -
@jrb555 You know, I have become a stickler for reading reviews for this very reason. I've wasted some cash on taking someone's word for it. A lot of the '1 or 2 Star' reviews are the purchaser's faults or "1 Star because the green seems more pine green than army green" reviews but you'll catch a consistency among them if you read enough and there is a problem.

@retropi19
Upgrade Retropie to Buster does not work on pi4
Needs a clean buster base to boot and then same can be backwards compatible
Tested -
@2Play is it possible to install retropie manual in raspbian buster lite with the script?
last time i tried a week ago i think it said something about add your arm device manual,is this fixed now?

Just got my first pi because I wanted to toy with this and other things and lucky me got the version that is not yet supported. Just wondering if there is an ETA for the version that is going to work with the rpi4. I have been looking and everything only states in the works and I was jsut curious about when it might be here.
-
@DKarn No set date for when RetroPie will work on the Pi 4. The devs are working on it.
-
@jrb555 I stopped watching ETA Prime for long time. His way of talking is very nice, but it's obvious he is doing these fake reviews/first hands on videos for advertising.

Yeah this was pointed out to him in the comments.

My Pi 4 just showed up in the mail!
Since RetroPie doesn't have an image ready yet, I guess I'll check out Raspbian since I've never used it proper.EDIT: My urges were too much to handle, and I ended up compiling RetroArch to test PC98 performance. The number's aren't 100% accurate since I had a desktop enviroment (which could potentially hamper performance), but I did notice that we can go to 16x clockspeed multiplier without slowdown now, which is nice.
-
@HurricaneFan is there any way to follow the progress ? not asking for ETA just want to follow the progress
-
@marine88 You could always watch what is getting committed to the master branch: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/commits/master
This doesn't give you a good idea though on how soon you might see a pi4 RetroPie release though.

I highly recommend following on GitHub. It's also fun to read the GitHub discussions/banter and see how it all comes together. It really makes you appreciate the hard work these folks do.
-
@shadow hope you are right? Is there anywhere we can ask, verify, or learn of progress on this release?
-
@tmntnpizza It is being worked on, no ETA at the moment. But it will be ready when its ready. Stay tuned to the announcements thread as I'm sure they will say when its ready for release. As you can see from this thread you are not the first person to ask this question...

I'm new to the pi scene in general and recently picked up the 2gig pi 4.
Can anyone point me in the direction of stand alone emulators for 8 bit and 16 bit systems that currently work on the pi 4 ?
-
Edit: Damn, I forgot there is no RetroPie for the Raspberry Pi 4 yet. So my below answer is not valid for now. (sorry)
@Lionheart I am not sure how you define stand alone emulator. RetroPie is an operating system including many emulators by default, with many more optional to install. Most of the mainstream 8 and 16 bit systems are covered by default.
- RetroPie: Website (homepage and download)
- RetroPie: Docs (including first installation and getting started tutorial)
You basically install RetroPie on your drive or micro sd card and put roms to the predefined folders of your system. The emulators are already installed on it. The first gamepad will be configured easily and you can start playing. For more specific questions and if you encounter problems, I recommend you to ask anything related in Help section of the forum:

@thelostsoul as I said i’m New to the pi emulation scene. I mainly used pc for emulation, so I used separate emulators for each system. But since I burned out my pc’s main board a couple months ago I decided to go with the pi as it’s small and hopefully does the job when RetroPie becomes available on the 4b.
I was just wandering if there is an emulator for one or 2 systems up and running so I have something to do while I wait for RetroPie?

Please be patient, there soon will be a release for the Pi 4. For now there's not much you can do but you can read the documentation which will be very helpful to study before the next version is released.
You can install Raspbian if you aren't patient but stand alone emulators (or even RetroArch itself) are not fully optimised yet. It's pretty pointless.
