lr-pcsx-rearmed kicks me back to the menu on pi zero with dpi screen, boots games fine on raspberry pi 3 with hdmi on a fresh build

Not to stir up this pot, but earlier you said -
@stinus77 said in lr-pcsx-rearmed kicks me back to the menu on pi zero with dpi screen, boots games fine on raspberry pi 3 with hdmi on a fresh build:
they are pbp. files and run fine on my raspberry pi 3b with the same sd card.
Last I knew, the pi3 and pi0 require different installations. If it works on your 3b, it shouldn't work on your Zero W. You aren't supposed to be able to take the card out of a 3b and put it straight into a Zero and expect it to work. PErhaps you need to make yourself a new card using a proper Pi 0 image?
-
@Thorr69 installation of the image is done on the pi zero, i only swith to the pi3 to use the wifi connection ( and yes to test if it runs on that ) for filezilla to put on the roms or use putty . as i cant get my wifi stick to work with the pi zero, keryboard is working fine with the zero, so the usb port is working. pi zero images always boot fine on pi3 for the record.
it also gives extra resolution settings on pi3. i have seen the lr-pcsx-rearmed running games on the pi zero at full speed with 3.5inch displays, with proper tweaking they schould run better then the pcsx rearmed. i would be glad just to get it running. -
Gotcha. I also just found this line in your original post:
@stinus77 said in lr-pcsx-rearmed kicks me back to the menu on pi zero with dpi screen, boots games fine on raspberry pi 3 with hdmi on a fresh build:
i downloaded a fresh image that was meant for the pi zero version 4.5.1.
-
@Thorr69 meaning ? ( and edited the previous pst, slipt on my keybord and accindently posted to soon.
the native resolution of the psx is 640x480, i think this is the problem and why it boots back, is there maybe a way to override this ?
is there a way to let it think its running 640x320 and let it play the video on the 320x240 display?
also funny thing happenned and don't know anymore what i did as went to all settings a hundred times, but pcsx rearmed isnt crashing my whole system anymore when i choose the different core...just boots me back like lr-pcsx-rearmed now. -
@stinus77 most ps1 games are 320x240. i don't know any that are 640x480. anyway i don't think that's the issue, but i've never heard of an emulator booting without a log file generated. do you not get one when you launch a working game (snes, etc)?
-
@dankcushions i will test it, i don't have any installed as i would like to build this as a portable playstation.
there schould be a file even when using filzilla ,right ? -
@dankcushions just booted street fighter 2, it gives me nothing... am i maybe missing something in the settings ? fresh install couple of days , pi image is from here.
-
@dankcushions actualy the psx can handle 640x480 just not many games use it.
so i made another vidoe showing that i set it to 640x480 that games boot fine on this resolution and don't boot in the sdtv mode.
yes i used the pi3 because that is the only one giving me the 640x480 option wich is not present on th pi zero when i boot it, hence my question is it possible to override the autodetect ? ok, didnt quite put it like that , please understand that its hard for me using another language. -
You can override the detection by using some parameters in the
config.txt
file on the boot partition of the SD card, see https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md.
Are you saying that the PI3 can do 640x480 with the same display, while the Pi Zero cannot ? -
@mitu no, its a different display. one is on hdmi the other isnt, so it had other resolution options. i am currently testing another pi zero trough hdmi connection, if i get it to work it could be easier to just switch the screens but i would neet to trim 2mm of the board on the back of the screen and don't want to do this to be honest...
i will look in to this option to, thanks -

But are you sure your display supports 640x480 over composite ? Do you have a model or a tech sheet to check ?
-
@mitu ive had this diplay lying around for about a year as i ordered it in double as a replacement screen for my sega nomad , so it would take me some time to search again ( but i will do )
the thing is that the gpi case has a display of 320x240 running playstation fine, so i think this should be possible to.
i will get back to you on this.
can i give the playstation emulator settings for other resolutions maybe ?
as mentioned aboveby dankcushions most games run in 320x240, maybe the emulator is based on the 640x480 resolution and a simple fix would geive me custom resolution settings? just thinking, dunno whats possible, so don't shoot me ... -
@mitu i am totaly lost with the link you sent, any tips of wich i should try, to be honest its a little to technical for me to understand all.
sorry and thank you for the effort you already provided.
btw, i set the screen resolution in the config to 640x480 and the display output is fine, little smaller to read, but working. -

If you managed to set the resolution through the configuration utility (
raspi-config
), then you don't need to modify the file I mentioned - it basically does the same thing.Try running the emulator without any video settings and see if it works this way.
-
@mitu ok i didnt set it trough raspi config, did it in on the sd card with the config on that. now did it with raspi config and get no picture only sound.
so this pretty much says i can't do 640x480 , i think . but its progress.
at this moment, what would be the wisest thing to do, should i search another display or do i have other possibility's?
this is progress in my eyes and i am determant to finish this build, so, bare with me on this if you will...
sorry again and a big thank you for sticking with me on this.
can i revert back without having to reflash the image for the time being as i search for another display ?
and how do i start without video settings please? -
@stinus77 remove the video settings from the
config.txt
file - or revert to the values you had before so you get back the video.
If you don't want to go the HDMI route - which I think would be better, since the composite port is not that great for a small display - then try to run the emulator without any video settings. For a PI Zero, thepcsx_rearmed
emulator is the recommended version for PS1, so I'd focus on getting that working. -
@mitu i'm gonna 3d print this link text and use the hdmi screen in the gameboy. its the same screen i am using ... it should fit with that bracket.
then i need to configure my usb d-link wifi adapter to work on the zero, i am failing miserable at that.
i got the picture back and all is back as it was, deleting the video settings it wasnt booting at all.
i'm gonna make the 2 above my priority so off to my 3d printer... to be continued. -
so i'm about to give up on this thing, i will make this a emu system untill the psx and build my atari linx project with a raspberry 3 i think.
i don't have the knowledge to finish the build, big bummer i think, but life goes on.
for the life of me i can't get any video out of the pi zero not on the hdmi screen, not on the sd screen, notn much to find in online help either.
as soon as i go on the pi zero nothing works, no rearmed no lr rearmed , no hdmi screen, no sd.
i think after 3 weeks i will go bang my wife again.
thanks for all the help guys.
maybe i will try a few suggestions, but they would have to be good, but now time to rest. -
so its official, i'm quiting this build.
looking forward to future projects and hoping a pi zero 2 will come along.
i just wanted to take the time to thank everyone here for the effort to make all these projects possible for us, you are doing a great job and i am very greatfull for that.
already have a pi4 at at hand with 4gb and waiting for dreamcast emulation as i see the promising flycast core inplimentation, thats my all time favorite console looking to be very well emulated.
so big thanks to all and let me know if i can donate without paypal, cause i really don't like paypal.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
