New Super Mario Land - SNES Homebrew
-
I honestly believe that it's the best homebrew game in history. The uploader also claims it was created by a single person from scratch! Totally deserves to become popular.
I hate conspiracy theories but when I first played it I though "could it be a legit scrapped Nintendo project for the SNES mini?" :P
-
Here are some cheat codes or rom patch to remove the Jumps sound.
-
@matchaman I wouldn't rule it out. I've not seen any legal threats knocking about yet, so that would suggest they are ok with it. They don't usually let things like this slide, like they made it illegal to mod a snes mini (in japan I think)
-
Anyone able to get the cheat code to work? I've made the file and it loads in RetroArch, but when I enable it Nothing happens.
Here is my *.cht file
cheats = 1 cheat0_desc = "Disable Jump Sound Effect" cheat0_code = "C01E75EA+C01E76EA+C01E77EA" cheat0_enable = false
It seems to match the format of other files I have at least.
-
-
It matches other *.cht files though, and on the wiki
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Cheats/
But true, I haven't tried everything, I can change that to
cheat0_enable = true
and see if it fixes things, is that what you were thinking?
Maybe I need to make it a multi-line code as another check?
-
@geneworld yes I was refering to that being set to
false
instead oftrue
.I don't use cheats myself so can't help much more than that, I just thought you might have overlooked trying setting that to
true
. -
@geneworld I'm guessing that others are set to
false
because they aren't enabled on the ROM boot. Most cheats if enabled on the ROM booting will cause them to crash / not boot up. If you set it totrue
and it boots up, I'd imagine you were good to go. Many of them (may need someone more knowledgeable here) fail some sort of checksum and close. Especially Genesis ROMs. If not, you would need to change it from theRetroArch
menu mid-game. -
@geneworld You can also easily patch the rom with the Lunar IPS utility : https://www.retrorgb.com/new-super-mario-land-snes-no-woohoo-sound-effect-hack.html
It's funny I thought it was a bit annoying too, but now it feels so quiet in the game. :')

Has anyone been able to play this game with 3 or 4 players?
I followed RetroPie's instructions to enable Multi Tap on Lr-snes9x and lr-snes9x2010, went into the retroarch menu and changed player 2 control type to Multi Tap, that only allows the 2nd controller to control players 2, 3 and 4 simultaneously.
Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks -
Super Mario with NDS graphic it's amazing, the graphic is very good. If all of the
spam link
had the same graphic this will bring the games on the next level. Where I can download that game. -
@GeekOB I had the same issue as you while using lr-snes9x 2010. But I did find a simple solution: install lr-snes9x from the optional packages. This emulator works flawlessly for this game (as fas as I could tell) including 4 player support.

I have the same issue as described by @GeekOB . I am using lr-snes9x and once player two is set to multitap, player two is controlling 2,3,4 simultanously... so at the moment it is only playable as 2players.
-
@robertvb83 But did you install the optional lr-snes9x emulator? I'm not talking about the preinstalled lr-snes9x 2010 emulator.

I believe so but i have no access right now. Do you have 4 seperate dedicated controlls for 4 players since updating to lr-snes9x?
I have 4 player mode but mario 2,3 and 4 are controlled by joypad 2 -

I have 4 player mode but mario 2,3 and 4 are controlled by joypad 2I was having the same problem with 4 player support when I first started playing this game. I was using the lr-snes9x 2010 emulator and I only could use 2 controllers for player 1 and player 2..no player 3 or 4 would work. I switched to the lr-snes9x emulator as suggested by @BobHarris(Thanks !) and now have controller support for all 4 players.
If you revert the multiplayer tap you utilized before, the rom should work correctly with 4 player support. -
Here's some boxart i created for the game, Enjoy
Happy New Year.

So, anyone here familiar with the process of creating cheat codes on Snes9x or can point me to some literature? I have been playing this with my 5yo son but the amount of errors caused by jumping on each other ends up becoming a bit frustrating, so I was going to try to alleviate that somehow ("try" being the key term here given my lack of experience in this domain).
From what I gather, it's a matter of identifying the address that triggers the rebound and forcing it to not happen. Since it doesn't seem to happen when one player is invincible (star), I'm hoping that will also give me some clue, but that's the most I'm thinking ahead so any pointers would be very much appreciated.
Also, thanks @Stuart2773 for the awesome covers!
