@Stuart2773 The speed issues might be fixed by the below.

@pjft said in (GUIDE) How to add Super Mario 64 PC to Retropie(Pi4 and Pi3b):

A final note before logging off: if you want to use a patch that requires the nightly build, after checking out the code enter the folder and run
      git checkout 685efc81c

which is the last good commit before the frame rate issues.

I think I will stick with the normal version then, unless I've done something wrong. Mine is really jerky as hell outside the castle at the start. It is fine inside the castle, but that doesn't really matter. I thought about finding the config to lower the resolution but that doesn't seem a good solution as I do think the non-patched version looks pretty good as is.

Has anyone figured out how to launch the custom menu yet?

Figured it out press shift on the keyboard in the pause menu.

For some reason, one mod pack is running into problems. Gonna see what it is.

Out of interest, have people got other texture packs and model packs working on Pi with smooth performance? I was thinking about trying Hypatia with the SGI models, but if it is going to be slow then I'll stick with the normal games.

@AdamBeGood I tried the SGI and it was still laggy. Currently I am running SGI and sm64redrawn. It looks amazing and runs stupid fast at times, then other times it runs like crap.

I might try the patch to see if that helps.

Could you write a noobs guide step by step on how to install the game and the SGI pack too?

@skj It'll basically be the same as the previous guide but with the additional files, wouldn't it?

@Krakatoa Cool, let me know if you find a solution that is really playable. At least it looks good!

I tried that method and it worked with the SGI pack it looks amazing not all the textures are in HD. Only the character models are rendered, not the actual levels. There is a bit of lag in places but i can cope with it

Not working on my 3B+. Built nightly branch, go to run in emustation and it doesn't launch. Ran it manually via terminal and i get:

                          Loading configuration from 'sm64config.txt'
                          ...
                          ...
                          ...
Could not determine swap interval, falling back to timer sync
                          Vertex shader compilation failed

                          FATAL ERROR:
Vertex shader compilation failed (see terminal)

Googled till my eyes bled, enabling opengl in raspi-config breaks things.
Been enjoying this game on my linux mint notebook, would love to play on my retropie thank you!

I will have to try installing this into my 3B handheld, it is working on the Pi 4 no problems, I used the installation method from Pi Labs (Youtube)

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

For people on a Pi 3b+ it won't work well, and don't try mods on the 3b+, try to build from sm64pc, not sm64ex

anyone recommend any good texture packs and is there anyway to control the speed of the game to stop it running too fast when packs are installed?

i found a cheat option by pressing the left thumbstick (xbox 360 controller) a few times in the pause menu, but not been able to get the custom menu by pressing shift to work !

@Stuart2773 Did you build it on the version of sm64ex that doesn't have the speed issue? It was mentioned above.

Pause Menu works fine on Xbox one controllers - pause and then right shoulder, can't vouch for 360 though.

really strange issue.. i have 2 Rpi4s with sm64pc installed on both. On one pi its got twister os installed, and when I run the game either in or out of retropie everything works perfect. On my other pi4 it has just the retropie image on the sd card, the controls are totally messed up. Mario always crouching, r button doesn't work, it's all kinds of messed up. Manually configuring doesn't help, shift button on the keyboard won't go into the options menu unless i unplug my controller. it thinks buttons are pressed that aren't. And ive tried sm64pc and both branches of sm64ex, also tried roll back the nightly branch . It doesn't make any sense..?

That because sm64pc needs opengl, which retropie does not support.
