I purchased a new joystick for arcade feel.

      one of these HERE

It works with SNES emulators and other console emulators but when trying to use it with an arcade emulator such as MAME or MAME4ALL the buttons work, but no movement. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the movement of the joystick is assigned to the D-PAD and not the Analog.

When trying to test the theory and not configure the D-PAD by holding down a button for a second or so that does not work. I have downloaded the latest version of RetroPie as of 12/22/2021 with the same results.

Is there a way to configure the DPAD controller configuration to transfer to the Analog as well?

      My configuration is:
      Pi4 2GB
      Official Raspberry Pi Power supply
      Office RetroPie image
      Emulation station
      Using MAME 2003 Plus

      Thanks in advance

@shift838 please read and provide all the information requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

also “mame”? which mame, specifically? i would take that to mean standalone current MAME in the experimental packages but it would seem a strange pairing to be testing that alongside mame4all, which is a version from 21 years ago, kept around because it has good performance for pi 1/0 devices..

I have added the system information as required.

An update though, I have been able to resolve this issue my going into the RertroArch setup configuration and changing the controller port bindings to be DPAD & Analog as well as assigning Analog Right or Analog left, depending on which joystick is which.

The only issue I seem to be having now is even though I have 2 joystics any game with MAME if selecting 2 player all plays off the first joystick. but so far I have only tested games that had only one joystick. I still need to test games that had multiple joysticks for players to play at the same exact time.

That's completely normal if you've ever played the actual arcade games. The only time you'll have the second controller active is on games where both players play at once.
