    @mitu I'm .. sure I'm not using it or setting it up appropriately.

    I'm not using the runcommand.sh file that is for launching game in retropie. i'm sort of bypassing that, because I couldnt figure out the process or syntax

    first, when you are just on the command line area (No Desktop) to initiate xinit, you must use sudo, but that doenst mean that retropie itself doesnt take care of that in some ... manner.

    anyway, heres my commands.

    the game's .sh file reads:

    xinit /usr/local/bin/wine /home/pi/.wine/drive_c/game_path/game.exe

    Next: es_systems.cfg file reads:

    <command>sudo %ROM%</command>

    thats it and it works.
    I tried for hours to get the normal:
    <command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 SYS pc</command> to work, but it wouldn't load, but also requires a config file.

    so in the /opt/retropie/configs/pc
    i created emulators.cfg file, but what do i put in there?
    pc = wine ?
    default = pc
    and if so, what do I change the game.sh file to? it already has the wine command in it.

    my main reason for creating this thread, was to figure out the syntax for 3 files.
    /home/pi/RetroPie/rom/pc/game.sh
    /etc/emulationstation/es_system.cfg
    /opt/retropie/configs/pc/emulators.cfg

    I've been working with the retropie software since 2015 when i got my first raspberry pi 2, but I've never tried this type of launch and its not easy to find the details about this type of functionality.

    thanks for listening. :)

    @agtrigormortis Dosabian! Thank you... I will check that out. It's all changed from a few years ago.

    I'm no good with Linux script. On my acrade build I tried 3 different screens all wider x 16:9 and they all looked awful. I went with a 2000's style 4:3 flat 20inch monitor but I had to get someone to set the PI up for VGA output and resolution and sound output on the headphone jack for the amp. I also used a VGA signal booster. The screen filters on retro arch are amazing for getting the CRT scan lines and barrel shape...I'm still in awe of the display after 3 years!
    The guy also took all the things off that take away from a stand alone arcade machine... I found people go for a look in Amiga or PlayStation(keyboard+analogue inputs) and that makes it poor because it doesn't work with pure arcade inputs. I'd much rather get an expert to help with the script though. 😎

    Those are two good ideas. The .sh is just for the script that starts dos box, but yeah, using .conf would provide for more configurability for each game... I'll have to do that when I have time to do that for 230+ games, lol.

    I was having success running some Windows stuff with Wine and Exagear on the 3B, but Exagear had the rug pulled out from under it when the devs went bust and we never got a Pi 4 version. QEMU is completely borked on the 4 as well, so there is currently no way to get Windows apps to run.

    Yeah, ZAO is a complete annihilator. And Yamato is like "oneshot" master. I remember punches for 50-75K from Yamato.
    Also, I've just finished heavy American cruisers and Des Moines is a total fire machine.
    Now I am on my way to Montana and German tier 10 battleship.
