So I own a few different versions of Galaga from my various gaming systems but I want to get it to work on my Pimoroni Picade on my Pi3. I loaded all the required MAME roms and was having issues, so I said forget it and loaded the bins from my PSX disc.

So, I can get the game to load, but it throws a warning on the bottom that says "NO bios, there could be errors" and then the games launches. As this is a Namco games collection it has some weird menus and play weird, but then when I exit and play something else, about every other button I push it goes back to the namco games and then back to the pi menu and feels like it never really clears it from memory. Do I need to reboot every time to clear it out? Also, does PSX need a bios? (Rather get the MAMES to work but was using this as a shortcut while I was working on the other stuff.)

You need a bios file for PSX games to perform properly. Like the one detailed here.

Figured as much. Was hoping things on the PSX side were as easy as the NES side where I just dragged the games file into the folder and boom it worked. lol.

Dumb question, if I add the correct bios to the bios folder on my thumb drive, will it auto copy over like the roms do and do I download the bios files from github?

@OldDucGuy yes, put it on a UBS drive in the bios folder and it will copy. there are no psx bios files on github - they are copyrighted content.

So I put a scph1001.bin file into my usb in the retropi bios folder and plugged it into the pi... it blinked for a few then stopped... but there is no bios file in the folder and the game doesn't see it either...

I seem to be missing some steps.

Had to look in the retropie bios and not the raspberry pi bios... found it... now to associate it with the psx....

@OldDucGuy there's no association needed. if it's the right file, and named correctly, you're ok. it's case-sensitive - see the link above.

Odd... it says there is no bios... perhaps either the roms or the bios is bad.

@OldDucGuy it needs to be named SCPH1001.BIN Capsare important. And it needs to be in /home/pi/RetroPie/bios/ you dont need to "associate" anything with the psx emulator.

Your best of getting arcade version to work, after all namco game disks are emulators themselves so in effect your emulating a psx emulating the arcade game.

Pointless. Cut out the middle man.

@OldDucGuy said in I has the dumbs. Galaga on Sony PSX Namco games versus on Arcade ROMS - Picade Pi3:

I can confirm that Galaga works fine in lr-mame2003 with a 0.78 romset.

@rbaker I have all the parent and clone files... do I zip them together or keep them as separate zips? (hijacking my own thread into a MAME discussion)

If you plan to run only the parent (Namco version) then just keep the parent. If you want to run a clone, you need the parent plus clone file if using split romsets, or just the clone file if using a non-merged romset (easiest). I see no purpose to "merged" sets (all files from clones and parent in one file).
