New NES overlays

@meleu well...I don't know...I'm kind of busy and I'm not sure if I have the time but...well...okay! Here you go!
https://github.com/backstander/retropie-ovl/tree/master/nes/Balloon FightThis box is black and I'm not sure if it looks as good as the Metroid box.
-
@backstander Would this look better?
-
@lilbud yeah...can you post the link to the picture you used?
I searched around and I found a Balloon Fight T-shirt and this is what I made with it:
-
Okay...I like this best!
-
@backstander I'll stick with that with black background based on the original NES box. Thanks! :-)
-
@meleu
Okay...I uploaded both bezels but the cfg file points to the original NES box version and the Tshirt version is in there but commented out :-) -
@backstander said in New NES overlays:
original NES box covers and splitting the picture in half and placing each as bezel
Splitting images can provide quite nice bezels, but it depends a lot on the specific image.
Generally I prefer not to split/cut writings and therefore try to reposition these; but that's just my personal opinion ;-) -
@backstander Like this one. Simple and effective.
this cool Samus Aran wallpaper

@lilbud Hey bud, why don't you create a repository for game specific launching images (maybe overlays too)?
I know you like to create splahscreens... In fact I use many of your splashscreens from retropie extra as game launching art.
If you like the idea we can make your art installable by my new script.

-
@lilbud wow! Pretty fast!
Take a look at the info.txt rules here:
https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art/blob/master/INFO.mdEach game must have its own folder. You can take a look at the @UDb23 's repo as an example.
-
@meleu Does this seem right?
https://github.com/lilbud/Overlays-and-Launching-Images/tree/master/balloonfight
Could you fix it if it isn't.

The
Balloon Fight.zip.cfg
(rom_config) is missing. Unfortunately I don't know the overlay config details... :( I just made the script to install the configs, not the configs itself.Maybe @backstander or @UDb23 could help with it.
Also, you can name the directory with a "human friendly" name (e.g.:
Balloon Fight
) with spaces and capitals and even subfolders (e.g.:nes/Balloon Fight
). -
@lilbud
Have a look at my Baloon Fight directory:
https://github.com/backstander/retropie-ovl/tree/master/nes/Balloon FightSplitting images can provide quite nice bezels, but it depends a lot on the specific image.
Generally I prefer not to split/cut writings and therefore try to reposition these; but that's just my personal opinion ;-)How I did it was how I had it pictured in my mind but it was more of an experiment. When I was making it I also thought about what you just said and worried splitting the text would look bad but after actually using it at an overlay, it doesn't bother me lol
-
@meleu: how does your script manage overlays for the same game but from 2 different creators ? ;-)
-
Added @backstander 's repository to the new script repo list. ;-)
Don't forget that the script is in its initial development phase. Next week I'll work more on it.
@lilbud adding your nes-based splashscreens with some pixelized letters saying "now loading... press a button to configure" would be really cool! The info.txt file for launching images is pretty simple.

Have a look at my Baloon Fight directory:@lilbud , @backstander -> tip: please check cfgs and info.txt when you create overlays.
@backstander: your baloon fight info has "metroid" as game name.
@lilbud: comments in your cfg for baloon fight refers to "river city ransom" (but being comments will not hurt installation ;-) ) -

Look the script's main screen:
If the overlays for the same game are from different repositories, there's no problem at all. But if they are from the same repo, they must be on different folders.
