    @ezelkow1 we don't maintain the kernel, it's packaged with the Raspbian image which is still on 4.4 so maybe in a few years ;)

    @edmaul69 indeed! but actually, there is no "start" in that sequence. When researching the Konami code I found that the start button was added to some games, but not all, so I opted to leave it out.

    There was an error in the Makefile and I've just fixed it. If you failed to compile it before, you can try again now.

    Thanks for shedding light @herb_fargus is the genesis only package ?

    If not mistaken lr-genesis-plus is not the default emulator either, does that still get downloaded in the image.

    @meleu
    You rock. Thanks for the clarity.

    Now say someone wants to use RetroArch's functionality for override config files... Haha, only joking. I don't really want to go down that road, but if anyone is curious there is yet another way to manage configs in RetroArch called override files. I won't even pretend to understand the behavior when trying to use those in RetroPie, but I know some people use them on other platforms.

    For override files, I believe you just put whatever changes to settings you want in there, and it will override those specific settings in the global config settings on a per emulator basis. This sound remarkably a lot like the way RetroPie manages configs!

    I need a drink.

    @BugAttack

    I have been dying to try this controller, but don't have a lot of interest in Steam. If the RetroPie team chose to integrate this as an optional install, the GTK3 GUI almost certainly wouldn't make the cut. Even if they don't choose to integrate it directly, installation of the driver should be pretty easy. Either way, this looks to be an extremely promising option for anyone looking to use this controller. Thanks for the link. I'm kind of excited about trying this now.

    Hey there BuZz.

    Thank you for that. I did not realize that it would be a youtube video and well to be honest I had searched and come up empty. I just don't get lucky with google.

    Thanks again!

    @OkTekk apt-get update should still only once (excl kodi). Apt-get install is called as needed though when each package checks it's dependencies

    @pimpmaul69 said in Merge roms folder with the roms folders in memory sticks:

    Can i ask what advantages are to not edit the es_systems.cfg?

    When I started using RetroPie a few months back I edited the es_systems.cfg as well. It was a bit like keeping an old steam engine running with the constant care it required, along with the fact that it never worked perfectly in all situations. After moving to the preferred method listed above, I truly noticed the relief of burden it brought and now everything "just works". To answer your question directly, below are a few noted advantages.

    Some facets of RetroPie are hardcoded to use ~/RetroPie/roms/ and don't reference es_systems.cfg Keeping an older es_systems.cfg in constant use prevents possible changes/additions that might be beneficial. Even with a "system" in place, changing the es_systems.cfg after every update is an unnecessary chore.

    @mrcola They are available from here. The system will generate a certain logic level for a coin insert depending on how you power it. This is equivalent to having a key press. With buttons, you have your common ground chain so when you press a button the switch effectively pulls the input to the controller down to 0V. With your own design for this, you may use the normally open or normally closed contacts depending on your design. By this I mean, you may want a logic 1, +5V to be fed into your controller (whatever it is) as opposed to a logic 0, 0V. Your problems will be connecting to the Pi GPIO. I am using a USB decoder (ipac2) for my button presses, so if I wanted a coin mech, I'd just wire it up to my chosen SELECT input (or keep the button for exiting and choose a spare) for the INSERT COIN feature. No need for GPIO. I'll assume though that you are using the GPIO for all your controller needs? If so, you would choose the GPIO pin that is currently used for SELECT.

    If you look at this package, it is a driver for using the GPIO pins. You would use GPIO 9 in this example.

    Also, look at http://blog.petrockblock.com/gadgets/controlblock-power-switch-game-controllers-and-io-for-the-raspberry-pi/ because this will allow you to do something similar.

    Finally, If you read this, it's got a really nice tutorial on how to program the GPIO for arcade controls.

    You will need to post more information about your setup before I can suggest further reading.

    @iconrumble said in PSX, please remove .bin from the file types.:

    @Lodan-Zark well, I used to play psx isos with bleem! on a 16Mb Ram system... guess the 700mb BIN would have to be all cranked up inside the 16mb RAM...
    I'm just saying that the emulator does not load the full bin into memory

    I think the PSX had like 2MB ram. Emulators require more memory compared to the original console.
