@mitu said in Pi overheating and scripts not working:

@MisterMints Most likely something hardware, try to return it and get another.

Wish it was that simple! My Pi3 is over a year old and was a gift - I treated myself to a new 3B+ and was going to donate the broken one (obviously before it was broken!) to a retro gaming present for my little brother.

At least now he gets the same present but with a brand new 3B+ instead

@Jekku If you have the nespi case with a fan already installed, you must remove that fan before you can use the dual fan heat sink. Also, use some white scotch tape and tape the heat sink to the raspberry pi with a dry fit. The fan slot in the case can interfere with a proper install. But, there is a certain position while still being able to give full contact to the heat spots on the pi when it is installed. Also, recommend using the flat copper heat sink for the chip on the back of the board. I have actually done this but without the copper heat sink on the back of the board. To be honest those double fan heat sinks actually fall off rather easily if given a light to medium tap. It is better to just use the regular heat sinks with the Nespi case fan installed.

I like to pull that tape of and use thermal paste. I never trust that stuff when it's preapplied.

@edmaul69 Granted, if you know what the layout of the board is. Then you are fine. Just seems like it will catch a few people out. Seems vague and poorly worded to me.
Call it a Pi 1B+ just to be definitive.

My pi3 b+ came in today. The flirc cases fits fine. I'm using a thermal pad I had lying around from a pc gpu.

@matchaman The actual CPU / SOC is inside the black square you see. Not sure if the Pi Broadcom chip is enclosed in ceramic or plastic but it's just the housing that is scratched / slightly chipped.

If i was in your shoes and i had spare heatsinks laying around i would still put one on a Pi Zero just as a safety precaution and also like you said you are using a case for the Zero which leaves no ventilation for it as well.
Overall always best to be safe than to be sorry after.

@matchaman I use overlays. Reasonable CRT effect, not as teaching on the CPU.
