@mitu That didn't seem to work unfortunately. BUT after getting another batch of ROMs I was able to get them working! Not sure what was happening with the other ROMs since they worked on my PC but these ones seem to work fine. Hopefully I don't have any further issues.

      Thank you for the help!

@showstopper no that location will not be overwritten. You will have to manually update that file from now on if you add new systems to emulation station.

A Sega CD game? That would probably instantly explain why it isn't working. I knew I found it in a pile of other TG-16 roms so that's why I stuck it there but if it belongs in the Sega CD pile then I'll give that a whirl.

I'll keep picking at this one rom and emulator at a time.

So i fixed my issue...did a crc check on the syscard.pce bios...it was the wrong checksum. Finding the correct checksum bios solved my problems.

@backstander said in Question regarding .pce file format for PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16:

Has anyone played the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games?

I have not. The last "new" CV game I played was 'Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth' on Wiiware, so it's been quite some time. Konami has such a bad reputation these days, that it pays to be cautious. It really is a shame too because thirty years ago they could do no wrong.

However, I can't get the controls to work

I'm not at my RPi right now so I'm going off memory.

First, look in /opt/retropie/configs/supergrafx/emulators.cfg and make sure it's got the line:

      input_remapping_directory = "/opt/retropie/configs/supergrafx/"

Then copy/overwright the contents of /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/ to /opt/retropie/configs/supergrafx/

This should copy over the same controls you are currently using for the PC Engine/TG16.

From my understanding there wasn't any region protection for the CD based games and I remember trying some Japanese CDs in my TurboGrafx CD and TurboDuo about 10-15 years ago. I was surprised that they worked so well then!

I did some more research (or googling) and found a 3rd System Card v3.0 that is identified as being from Japan with an md5sum of 38179df8f4ac870017db21ebcbf53114. I tried Mirai Shounen Conan and Sylphia and they both worked on this BIOS. I also tried that 4 in 1 Super CD for the US Turbo Duo (this is the same one I had for my Duo which is also in storage lol) and it worked as well. The "System Card interface" looks just like ff1a674273fe3540ccef576376407d1d with "PC Engine" and "1991".

Also I was able to verify that the md5 of 0754f903b52e3b3342202bdafb13efa5 is indeed the USA version.

I updated the wiki with this:
      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/PC-Engine

I ran out of time searching and didn't get to look up ff1a674273fe3540ccef576376407d1d to see if it was just another Japan or maybe Europe?
