yes... but we will probably have to wait for them to support/compile for the new hardware's capabilities. it should be reasonably quick to happen but no-one has the hardware in their hands yet!

The new RPI4 seems to require the freshly released Raspbian Buster to work.
So I would hold my horses a bit for RetroPie to catch-up with such change.
Hopefully things don't take too much work, but lots of testing is in order :) -
The one thing i am hoping for is better Mame emulation because it would be nice to have a Pi and at least the 2gb memory model handle games like Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder and Killer Instinct 1 and 2 because i love those games and would be great for my barcade.

Well certain emulators like N64 would benefit better from more memory and i would tend to think certain arcade emulation as well and also PSP and Dreamcast should be more improved on it with more memory.

this is HUGE news I think. it should mean fullspeed and accurate emulation for:
- n64
- dreamcast
- saturn
and better emulators for
- playstation (beetle-hw)
all of these required GLES 3.x for full support. GLES 2.x was always holding pi3 back, for the most part.
i should think the new CPU should allow for full speed current MAME also, but we will see...
Accurate Saturn emulation? That's amazing!
But with which emulator? The only accurate Saturn emulator I know of is Mednafen and it requires a modern fast desktop CPU...
As for N64, the latest updates on M64P indeed bring excellent accuracy on HLE, I guess we should consider the N64 fully emulated on the Pi now...
Also I'd really love to see SEGA Model 1 & 2 emulation but I guess we're not that fortunate due no available open source emulator options out there.

libretro kronos is also a possibility - a fork of the above. it is not so ARM-centric, though.

According to an RPI engineer, they now doubled the SDcard module speed which I agree was pretty slow in earlier models :)

DDR50 is now supported and the controller now supports ADMA.While it is not eMMC, it is still a welcomed improvement!

@frezeen Not sure about the comments of it struggling with Youtube. Chris @ ExplainingComputers.com released a video today and it seemed to playback Youtube full screen without an issue. The benchmarks do seem so verify what he said 2-4 times faster depending on what you are doing.

Another comment of interest from the Official RPI Forums:
Buster will release with a 32-bit userland, as backwards compatibility for all previous models is important. The Pi 4 kernel uses LPAE but eventually we'll ship a 64-bit kernel.
That's great news for the near future, specially for arm64 dynarecs such as in
lr-mupen64plus-next. -
Can anyone speculate on whether or not the extra ram might be needed for emulation purposes? I imagine the 4 gb of ram might be a bit overkill for our uses but what about the 2 gb ram model?

real boot from usb in future with no tips... pi4 has a onboard eeprom for bootrom, nice one for a system on usb 3.0 ssd

My thoughts are go with the 4gb and you will be covered, it isn't much more money. If you go with the 1 or 2gb and then find out there are improvements with the 4gb you have to replace the whole thing.

IMO 55$ is not that much.
So it is a serious question: could it be a disadvantage to have 4GB as a Retropie-User for any reasons?
