    Hi, yes i know i can access it via samba but transfer of the files via that are really slow on my network, hence wanting to do directly.
    Backing up as an image is of no use since I wouldn't be able to restore it without wiping all of the new image that I have to write to the disc with the new build on it.

    I'm using FUSE-ext2 for Mac and have now mounted the drive and am now copying across.

    thanks anyway.

    It was a zip dependency not in the install script. Install zip manually with

    ha..also a 'hear hear' for that!as I mentioned though,shouldn't I be able to simply delete the config files for PSX I changed and it'll revert to default 'global ' settings?

    I noticed when I (re)install a core using retropie_setup, it creates a retroarch.cfg.rp-dist in the respective config directory. You can use it to "restore factory settings".

    Handy-Dandy Indeed!

    Hi everyone,

    Im building my second arcade machine - upgrading from a single player with trackball to a 4 player with trackball, light gun, push/pull spinner etc. A big job but achievable with my Pi3 and a little help from Ultimarc! Anyway, much of interest lies with classic arcade games and as such - due to the controls I use - I use advancemame as opposed to the other mame emulators.

    I also use RGBCommander for the LED buttons and another reason to use AdvanceMame is that it uses a unique process ID - meaning I can change the colours of my butttons between Libretro Emulators and Mame, which is cool.

    Now it appears we have a choice in terms of front end but, from what Ive read, Emulation Station is still the best bet for me as support for AdvanceMame is poor in AttractMode - does anyone have experience of using Advancemame and attractmode? Does it work? Or does anyone know of other versions of Mame in Retropie that have equally good support of HiD devices?

    Cheers

    Mark

    Not true I only run AdvanceMAME and Daphne on my Rpi3 with AM and it runs perfectly, maybe a little quicker than ES to load games and return to the display.
    Another Nice thing about AM is you can run a combined list and only have one dispaly rather than multiples for different emulators.

    what said

    said that some programs had their own settings but this will change them all to 32mb and only offered me to go ahead

    ?

    Nothing has changed in RetroPie regarding gpu mem, but raspi-config / firmware has changed which may have had some effect. Need more information to advise. Note that the RetroPie image is just RetroPie installed on top of a Raspbian Lite image - we are not responsible for the underlying os/firmware/kernel etc..

    @jkristof The question is really two questions:

    What trackballs are supported by the IPAC2?
    This isn't really a question for RetroPie, but rather, a question for Ultimarc.

    What trackball support is there on the Raspberry Pi 3?

    As far as Pi support goes, a trackball should work like a mouse interface to the Raspberry Pi--any model. The best answer would have to come from someone who is using an IPAC2 on a Pi. I use the Ultimarc U-Trak, which I expect behaves similarly. I can tell you that it does indeed work like a mouse. If I run X I can move the cursor--it's a mouse.

    It's one thing to have your trackball move a cursor on the desktop in X. It's something else to tap into that device with an emulator. Not all emulators do it. AdvanceMAME works very well with mouse interface devices (trackballs and spinners) if properly configured.
    This Post describes the settings you need. It's probably your best MAME option.

    I also have the trackball working fine in QUAKE 3 without any configuration needed, and I expect other ports that support the mouse would also work.

    Make sure you're actually exiting properly.

    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#why-arent-my-in-game-saves-working-properly

    If you are actually exiting properly, make sure a save file actually got generated in your rom directory. If it exists, you could try an alternate emulator. I've had some hit and miss results with the way gba handles save data, but usually that only causes problems on the first boot. Messages like save data corrupted and such.

    If you want to loose that annoying quit dialogue that pops up take a look in the advmame-1.4.rc file for Misc_Safequit and set this to a resounding No.

    Oh! Thanks for the tip, that dialogue message has always been a pain. I had no idea you could remove it.

    @jkristof I have purchased the ipac2. It has caused me some problems. I will detail them here for you. There are many resources on the web that discuss it but my problems seem to be with retroarch configurations. Have a good read of this thread first. Now I have experimented with Joypads, PS controllers and keyboards and they all work perfectly so when I built the cabinet and invested in an ipac2, I expected the same. For non retroarch based emulations like MAME4ALL and AdvMAME, it worked instantly and perfectly as it is already configured for MAME so in answer to your question, if you wire it correctly, it will play MAME games easily. However, I wanted to run libretro emulations so that certain games can run using FBA and NEOGEO roms. I made a mistake in following the autodetect sequence of retropie for the ipac which appears to be detected as a joypad. If you follow this then try to edit your configs, there will be problems in getting player 2 to work. I could not solve it for days and was about to give up. I was confused that the ipac was giving perfect key strokes like a keyboard but retroarch was not having it. The answer for me was to configure a normal keyboard first that was detected as a keyboard. Configure everything using it then disconnect it. If you then edit retroarch accordingly and reboot, ES will not ask to configure your controls and both sticks and buttons will follow the mappings in retroarch.cfg. If you don't configure a keyboard first, there will be issues if you follow auto detect. Even though the ipac detects key presses from a keyboard, it is not detected as one. According to the other threads on this forum, the firmware that is supplied makes the ipac appear as a joypad but there are other firmwares available here. Hope this helps you.

    @Riverstorm How much power does the wireless dongle draw?

    I don't know for sure. I could take a look at the receiver tonight to see if it lists any power specs. I know it lists USB 2.0 as a requirement but the actual draw I'm not to sure.

    change local delay=$((20/count)) to local delay=$((40/count)) (would double the delay). I will perhaps introduce an option for this at some point.

    @jimd0586 said in Dragon's Lair from Daphne Download, what to do when no lair.zip file:

    @Finhead

    I would upload a screenshot of my jstest but I have been unable to upload screenshots. When I run jstest it has the on:off for each button, but for my joystick it is an axes: and then either a positive or - negative number

    @jimd0586 Don't over think it. Don't worry about the axis values, they are for the joysticks and not the buttons (except Left Top and Right Top are axis values).

    It's not really difficult at all. Below is the default dainput.ini. I didn't do much with KEY_UP, KEY_DOWN, KEY_LEFT and KEY_RIGHT except remove the values 5, 7, 8, 6 (if you want to use those buttons for another function). The joystick automatically worked I only had to modify the buttons.

    Say you want to change action button 1 (KEY_BUTTON1 is the sword in Dragon's Lair). Just run jstest, press a button. If it highlights button 3 then add 1 to the number (3+1=4). 3 is the button and the +1 is because button 0 is reserved so you need to add 1. Every button is the value+1 and 0 is never used. Each line has 3 numbers (the first 2 are keyboard inputs and the last one is for the joystick). Now just find the line below you want to modify (names are self explanatory if not the Wiki explains them) and change the last number which is 14 to the new number which is 4 and that's it. Do this for each button you want to change. Example below.

    Original line:
    KEY_BUTTON1 = 306 97 14

    New line:
    KEY_BUTTON1 = 306 97 4

    # Daphne custom keyboard and joystick mapping # # Each input is mapped to 2 keyboard keys and one joystick button. # A joystick's first analog stick is also automatically mapped. # # The first two numbers are SDL keyboard codes (or 0 for "none") # Find keyboard codes here: # http://www.daphne-emu.com/mediawiki/index.php/KeyList # # The third number is the joystick button code (or 0 for "none") # Since 0 is reserved for special meaning, joystick button 0 is identified # as 1 here. Button 1 is identified as 2, and so on. # # Find the button you want to map by running: # jstest /dev/input/js0 [KEYBOARD] KEY_UP = 273 114 5 KEY_DOWN = 274 102 7 KEY_LEFT = 276 100 8 KEY_RIGHT = 275 103 6 KEY_BUTTON1 = 306 97 14 KEY_BUTTON2 = 308 115 15 KEY_BUTTON3 = 32 113 16 KEY_START1 = 49 0 4 KEY_START2 = 50 0 0 KEY_COIN1 = 53 0 1 KEY_COIN2 = 54 0 0 KEY_SKILL1 = 304 119 0 KEY_SKILL2 = 122 105 0 KEY_SKILL3 = 120 107 0 KEY_SERVICE = 57 0 0 KEY_TEST = 283 0 0 KEY_RESET = 284 0 0 KEY_SCREENSHOT = 293 0 0 KEY_QUIT = 27 113 17 END

    @Loxley

    You can map your controller pcb to a virtual keyboad device using the built-in xboxdrv.

    Keyboard Emulation

    The following configuration will cause xboxdrv to emulate a keyboard, which can be useful for games that are played with keyboard, like Flash games or games that don't support a joystick. Since different games use different keyboard keys you might have to adjust the keybindings to fit the game:

    $ xboxdrv
    --ui-clear
    --ui-buttonmap a=XK_a,b=XK_b,x=XK_x,y=XK_y
    --ui-buttonmap dl=XK_Left,dr=XK_Right,du=XK_Up,dd=XK_Down

    Taken from:
    http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/xboxdrv/xboxdrv.html

    There is also "Linux Joystick Mapper" that is very similar and a good choice as well. It's not included with RetroPie, so you'll have to make and install it.
