@Dominus I think it would have stopped then too. I do intend to make some improvements to this soon.

@BuZz said in mame4all confusion (forked):

@Riverstorm I guess because it was easier from a code point of view and more compact etc. They could just dump the data structures then to the file without having to convert them to/from a human readable format. They may have had other reasons however.

That makes sense. I am definitely a strong advocate for "other reasons". Some of the people I work with occasionally make comments on how this or that is "dumb". I always reply with they probably had their reasons at the time why they did something a specific way.

Thanks for the answers. I now understand more about how it works and see that putting ROMS on to usb and plugging in it automatically copies to the retropie file structure. Thanks.

    @flow86 said in lr-mame2010 tankfrce4 - 4 player input problem (switch NS1 to Face_off):

do you know other top down view (tank) games
    for 4 players?

One that comes to mind is Tank8 (using lr-mame2003). This is an old Atari title for 8 players but you can get away with four if you stagger the mapped players, and even map a button to the admin control to enable team play. That game definitely has its quirks, so you probably want to google it and browse through a PDF of the original manual.

I swear I played a cocktail version of Sarge, 4-players. I only ever see a 2-player ROM in compatibility lists, and I can't get it to work at all in 2003, but AdvanceMAME plays it. Anyway, if someone knows of a 4-player version of that, it's a great tank game.

I know you mentioned tank games, but I have to say Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2 are must-haves on a 4-player cocktail cabinet. These games are fantastic for 4-way coop fun. Other usual suspects are the Simpsons, X-Men, TMNT, NBA Jam, and a handful of 3 player games like Rampage and Xenophobe. I also recommend Stone Ball which can be setup for 4 players for a fun caveman football romp.

Don't overlook racing games like Championship Sprint, Ironman Stewart's Super Off-Road and even Demolition Derby.

    man tar

--strip-components=NUMBER strip NUMBER leading components from file names on extraction

    eg path1/path2/file becomes path2/file

@jay81uk check out Sony vs connectix or bleem and you'll see that not once have emulators been ruled illegal in a court of law. Now if an emulator ships with copyrighted code like BIOS or games like ROMs litigation is guaranteed.

Emulators are nothing more than a codec for video games, just like a DVD is no more than a codec for a filmstrip. Having a DVD is not illegal, downloading a movie, and selling a DVD with someone else's movie on it is. Same with emulators and roms. Frank cifaldi gave a fantastic speech on emulation and why it's been vilified.

It is a fascinating topic. Definitely worth watching all the way through.

Nope. I tried both options to rc.local, no dice (I substituted advmame-0.94.0 and punisher.zip)

I'm going to try and get a PiPlay option working if I can't find a good image of 2.3

If you're running Android, try RetroArch from Google Play Store.

Thanks! Got to change the mappings correctly! :D

Shame the menu doesn't allow me to map the Jump button tho, it's just not in the mapping options for the gamepad.
