@retropiecase said in How can i copy my retropie sd card to my computer:

@gomineko if i Backup is every setup lile scrapper or controller configuration the same ?

If you backup the SD image, it's a bit-for-bit duplicate of the entire SD card. This copies everything, updates, boot settings, installed packages...the mistyped commands in your bash history...everything. Just like you shut it off and just turned it back on again.

If you copy the roms, bios, and configs over the network share and then restore them to a fresh image, you will still keep most of your customizations (from the "configs" folder) but all your history, updates, etc. will be wiped clean and you will be starting fresh on those fronts.

@sleve_mcdichael I'm an idiot, no I didn't! Got it working now and it compressed the.img perfectly. I installed it onto the 16gb card, booted up and it all works!

Thanks a lot everyone, couldn't have done it without the help received!

Win32DiskImager is what I use as well to backup my RPi images.

There's also an easy way to transfer your ROMs automatically from an FAT32 or exFAT formatted USB stick. I don't know if NTFS will work with this, too.

I found a video here that applies for my situation:

What my friend did was just give me that SD card that was already on his pie. So what I am doing right now is backing it up to an .img file and then I will restore it onto a new SD card.

I just didn't know I could do that until you mentioned it hehe. Thanks a lot mate!

EDIT: I will share a screenshot of how this retropie looks like when it is done so you can see why I like it a lot.

@mitu I tried that link but I don't have a C:/Users/Herb Fargus/ folder on my Windows 10 installation. Do you think Herb would be willing to swing by and log into my machine sometime soon? :^()

@mitu Same things happens...no folders (all, nes, snes and so on) will be copied. Nothing happens. It´s really odd. And...it´s ONLY the config folder that this happens to...all other folders seems to be copied.

Wrote this script and ran it a few times now. Monitors rsync to see if it's running (rsync I guess is what's used to copy ROMs from the USB to internal storage). Would be super if the devs gave us some way to know that it's still copying ;) ;) but this works, and was only using about 0.5% CPU usage.

      https://github.com/InunoTaishou/RetroPie-rsync-Monitor

The whole file is commented, should help anyone looking to do the same.

@flashpc yeah, it's great. I took advantage of this feature in my rpie-art tool (link on my signature).

      Cheers!

@Nicky ask the seller for support. Why you spent money on free software is beyond me. That seller is illegally selling our work not to mention copyrighted content

If you want any help here, start from scratch with the official image.

Maybe try it with emulation station shut down by pressing f4. Emulation station may be rewriting the game list files when you restart it.

@lostless That was exactly it! I even remember reading about this very same thing in the RetroPie wiki but had completely forgotten about it. Pressing F4 to close down Emulation Station and then transferring the respective files/folders over works perfectly. Thank you!
