@rfinnie I guess the min/max values are not a strict specification, thus I said "should". It depends on brand/model as I learned (mine Logitech Rumblepad and a knock-off Switch/XBox controller report in the "should" range).

On a tangent: The Arcade'81 looks nice and gives you at least enough space to add a subwoofer. I added an external subwoofer 6.5" later to my custom bartop which made the games even more fun to play. In any case: Happy tinkering!

But back to your initial request/idea. Maybe @pjft can comment on that, if a or which suggested change (see first post) would be accepted in the ES source tree.

I have this curse...both at home and I work. I can't figure out a problem to save my life. Then, after I publicly make an ass out of myself by asking...the situation just clears itself up, as if there is some sort of cosmic force at work who wants me to constantly humiliate myself. This situation seems to be no exception. Without changing a thing, it seems to be working the way I want it to the past day or so.

@darkus I have the RPI system 24/7, but I don't have this problem. The TV turns off the screen after about 1h (2h maybe). I have the screensaver/power options active in EmulationStation, if that makes a difference.
One thing to try is to move the HDMI PI cable to a different TV port - if you have more than 1. Mine is set HDMI2, which is labeled PC, and has the Game mode active.

This issue also happens when using an 8BitDo bluetooth controller on amiberry and mame-mame4all.

@InunoTaishou you could always install the graphical desktop and then alter the script to call X to screen blank. There's more about it here and here
