    @Columbo said in Using ROMs:

    I didn't think it mattered which emulator was used because it was just a matter of whether a ROM with two disks could be used and I assumed that it would be the same for any emulator.

    This statement makes my week! :)

    I believe it supposed to set the threshold to 60% utilization before overclocking where I think the default is 95%? I thought lowering it might make it a bit snappier. I was running Gauntlet Legends on N64 and through a Putty session I saw it kept downclocking to 600 several times just booting up and sitting at the intro screen.

    might be worth experimenting with. use the command:
    vcgencmd measure_clock
    to measure GPU 3d clock speed in real-time

    Thanks Dank, I tried the command but I must need to install a package? It gave me an error when I ran it.

    That's ok as my technical ability is pretty low unless the output is pretty self-explanatory but even then I wouldn't know how to implement any changes beyond tweaking.

    I think Buzz hit the nail on the head with what I was shooting for, unless there is more performance to be gained. ;) I suppose it's diminishing returns on performance vs. tweaking on what the Pi is capable of but Twitch's thread gave me hope that there are some good N64 games that are quite playable on the Pi 3.

    I installed read the forum rules! Kodi build last night on my Pi 3 and it is amazing. Every worthwhile addon is included in the package so I won't have to touch it ever again!

    @caver01 as long as the changes are valid I don't care who edits things as it is a wiki intended for anyone to contribute and if they suck I'll just revert them as I get notified anytime anyone makes a change so don't worry ;)

    @Drignor

    I too have used the same 'resource', I think from what I remember if you are just talking about SEGA/Mega CD there is only a .cue + single .bin for most if not all games anyway, even if they have audio tracks. Everything is inside one .bin, but the references to the track start/finish points are stored within the .cue. PSX is the platform where there is a right mix of single and multiple files, Ridge Racer for example has quite a lot and you have to launch from the .cue file for it to work properly.

    There must be a simple explanation why you are unable to launch .cue files with lr-genesis-plus-gx, as like I say, mine works absolutely fine. If it does become an issue let me know and I will send you a excerpt of my config so you can compare.

    Cheers

    @Meneer-Jansen

    You are lr-mame2003's dev? Great work on such a complex system! Good luck with developing. :)

    not at all, just putting in some very small tweaks! the hard work was done by others.

    Apparently I had to put the samples in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/sample instead of <rom dir>/samples (notice the S). I'm awfully sorry, but a lot of things work different in lr-mame-2003 then what I'm used to since 1997.

    i've now changed this to /samples/ - see
    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003
    (along with a bunch of other directory names that were different from standard MAME)

    they aren't kept in the ROM directory as that could be shared by several systems, and also cause the .zip files to show up in emulationstation. instead, it's in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/samples/ (but at least it's samples rather than sample!)

    To answer my own question, looks like it doesn't matter what adapter Retroarch detects, you can simply map your inputs (Retroarch>Settings>Input) to the controller you're using and they should work in any Retroarch emulator.

    Thanks for the response. Luckily I managed to work it out.

    For some reason none of the Retroarch emulators downloaded (not sure why).

    My pi came with Noobs pre installed so not sure if there was a conflict somewhere.

    I flashed it just with Retropie in the end and everything works as intended.

    One issue I did have was my ps3 controller didn't work in game (it worked fine it emulationstation). It turned out that my wireless keyboard was being picked up as the control method in game and not the controller. Once I unplugged the receiver then the ps3 pad worked.

    So all in all everything is now working fine.

    I've got to say, this is an awesome piece of kit! :)

    Cheers.
