Having started this thread I'll speak up again, because I don't think I managed to ever get the O2 change (though I did get the Genesis change just fine).

So there's technically two files in two different locations where this kind of thing can be changed, and the preferred location is in /etc/emulationstation, and in the other location mentioned, that cfg file can be safety removed / deleted?

I'll have to revisit this :)

On a totally unrelated note: these are nifty little 3D hack games. More impressive than I was expecting. Though the graphics on most of them looked like they were designed for the SNES and just thrown in a color garbage can converter for the Genesis graphics. But I must say, PGA Tour had some jammin' music :D

Also, please note that I am using retropie 4.1 and whatever emulators come with that. They are probably a little outdated... and better? Hehe.

Would you be against buying a 3rd party controller?

I'm a stickler for the originals I must say. I've had bad luck with pretty much every single after market controller I've ever tried going back even to the 80's. Even had bad luck with 2x 8BitDo's everybody seems to love. Only lately, ~20 years later, am I having problems with the real console controller brands for the first time (and even that's not their fault as they're now antiques, and I'm using them on a computer and not a console).

@edmaul69 said in Problem with Genesis/MegaDrive USB adapters (RetroUSB and Mayflash brand):

the biggest issue is the cables are crap.

I'll deal with re-wiring them if I have to, in like another 20-30 years when the controllers are going for $100+ each because they're so rare ;)

Right now I have working properly: 4x+ NES controllers, 2x SNES, 3x Genesis, 2x PS1, 2x PS2, and a bunch of Xbox 360 wireless controllers....so even though it took me a ton of trial and error I have at least a set for each proper console I emulate so I'm just leaving it at that. It was just a shame that it took so much trial and error to get to this point. I want to have a 2-player set of controllers for each console, and a backup or two so I'll probably pickup another SNES and Genesis controller, but that's about it.

    Mayflash USB MD adapter

Ah thank you! Yeah I also prefer the look of the MD1 but my MD1 is still working so would feel bad about using it. Same reason I haven't gone for a SNES as I only have a working one and the price of even broken retro consoles seems to have gone pretty high these days!

I hadn't heard about the Mayflash USB MD adapter but it's a very good idea, did you have any issues with that working with RetroPie on the various (8-bit and 16-bit) emulators?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I can confirm that the Mayflash Genesis / Mega Drive adapter does indeed work with Retropie / UAE4ARM for Amiga emulation. I haven't had a chance to play with it too much but I was able to play Datastorm in simultaneous two player mode with two original Konix Speedking joysticks. I could move around happily and fire my guns - cool! I didn't have time to try out any other games or joysticks, but initial results are good. The Mayflash adapter is way cheaper than any other 9 pin adapter I could find (especially dual) so this was a real win.

Couple of things to mention though...

-Configuring the input confused me for while because I wanted to set the fire button to B. However I discovered that you can't skip button A during setup. I therefore set fire to A and assumed I would need to edit it manually in the config file afterwards. However when I launched the game, the fire button worked just fine, so no need to change. Button settings are below.

-Bizarrely even though I had configured the input, pushing the joystick right in the Emulation Station screen, opens up the EmulationStation menu, as though I have pressed Start/Select. Works fine in the game though. This is not really a problem as I can use the keyboard to navigate or just cycle left though the menu!

-In UAE4ARM you will need load the rp-a500 config and set input Port 1 & Port 2 to the Mayflash and save.

    D-pad Up - Button 12
    D-pad Down - Button 14
    D-pad Left - Button 15
    D-pad Right - Button 13
    A / Fire - Button 0
(Oddly these mappings differ to what is shown on the Mayflash packaging)
