Sounds like a doable challenge, but it will take me some time.

You can use the gpio-keys module as an example. In theory, you create an DT fragment and don't write a driver at all, but in this case you need the GPIO to emit gamepad events instead of keyboard events.

For screen and mouse/analog rotate (book mode), see here for a workaround:

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/29456/solved-nds-lr-desmume2015-rotate-also-mouse-axis-when-video-is-rotated

It relies on lr-desmume2015. It is a workaround as the book mode issue is neither implemented yet in the lr-desmume2015 nor in retroarch.

@Gokilz would you mind adding the rotate/book mode aspect to the subject on your initial post? This would make it easier to find this topic in future when searching for a similar issue as yours.

      4.5.13

The hardware was wired to the GPIO for the wiring of the mk_arcade_joystick_rpi and the mountains and joysticks, Sanwabuttons a,b,x,y,l,r,start, and select buttons to fit the GPIO and install 4.5.13 (https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/).B,Y,Other buttons on joystick did not work.
      mkarcadejoyystick 0.1.7 version(https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/supplementary/mkarcadejoystick.shSetup/blob/master/scriptmodules/supplementary/mkarcadejoystick.sh

In the input setting of the retropie, say you found the GPIO controller and enter the keystroke (if you press Y, GPIO).They say they found the controller and enter the keystrokes. The joystick and other buttons do not work and the key setting sets the joystick to the top and B buttons, and the other buttons do not work.)

np. Configuring controllers is explained here - https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation - configuring additional controllers is under the "start" menu in ES (as you have found). Once configured in ES other emulators are set up automatically etc.
