      @lavalamplighter

Great to hear that it has solved the issue.

Yes you can poke around in the files to see if the theme has support for ti99.
      All themes are on github.
So for example our theme 'DTEAM-1 cygnus-blue-flames' can be found over here :
      https://github.com/DTEAM-1/cygnus-blue-flames

This is the same for all themes.
Just look at the file esthemes.sh for themes in :
      /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary/esthemes.sh
      or :
      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/supplementary/esthemes.sh

@mitu I tried all the commands listed and nothing seems to change the look other than removing the -f, adding in the -4 and choosing CEA-4 as the video mode. The --scale2x did what it usually does, gives that rounded look. --scale=n (interger scaling) did nothing, and niether did -NTSC, -PAL

So this is the end result. It looks odd with all the color and no black borders on the sides, but it runs great and has the 4:3 size ratio.

I don't know what else to do with this, seems odd that it does this. I can live with it if there is no other choice.

just closing the loop here, for 1. i didn't figure out how to map the system's joystick fire button to a gamepad button but after some online searching apparently every TI994A game can be controlled solely by the keyboard - the fire key for Shamus is "q" after some trial and error (hold "q" and press the direction of fire). all good now!

@NewAtThis Can you try updating the ti99sim emulator from source and check again if the resolution handling is better ? It's been updated to the latest version, which was a major update.
Try to remove any video mode set through the runcommand launch menu.

Anyone know a workaround, or if ti99sim will eventually use Retroarch?

That's up to the emulator author to decide or another developer that can contribute the necessary code to the Libretro project. The RetroPie project bundles the emulators, but does not develop them.

@johne79 I haven't tried it but I bet there is probably some conversion method. Atari age has a lot of old console users that might have a better idea on it

Managed to find them in ctg format so it's all good.

Now I can use Household Budget Management on my MacBook, forget that Quickbooks nonsense. :P

      Thanks for the heads up!
After searching the forum I discovered I just needed to put the four bios files in the roms folder.

      Cheers

@jrmymllr I ran into this same issue today. There is a symlink in the ti99sim directory that is looking for a file TI-994A.ctg in the RetroPie/BIOS folder. Ensure the file is the exact same case and NOT in the TI99 folder within the BIOS folder.
      Good luck!

I installed a few optional emulators such as jzintv, and those had binaries. But I noticed the experimental emulators, such as ti99sim, only lists source. Does this indeed mean it must be compiled, and if so, are there any instructions on how to do this?

just select it as normal and it will compile.
