minibian is not supported. Looks like you are missing some of the raspberry pi libraries. I don't see much point putting retropie on top of a Raspbian based distro that is even slimmer than Raspbian Lite (which is what our image is based on), since RetroPie itself will use a fair amount of space etc.

I used ApplePi-Baker to install originally and I also use it to make and restore from all of my backups. I would be surprised if it is causing problems. It still sounds like you're having power issues, but if you have definitively ruled out that scenario, then you probably have a defective Pi. It could have even been damaged sometime after you bought it. Was their any extended period of time when you didn't use a case? Has it always been plugged into a surge protector?

Thanks for all the help guys, decided after experimenting to just stick with horizontal as it displays both pretty well. Here's a wee video of it in action, hope it's ok to share here.

you can check the compatibility lists, but lr-mame2003 has decent compatibility vs speed for the RPI3 (and lr-fba-next)

bad guide - you should mount the usb over the existing roms folder. symlinking it may also work (or do a bind mount from existing location).

Changing all the paths in es_systems.cfg is a bad idea.

you need to make sure you mount the drive so that the user pi can write them also. can use uid=1000,guid=1000 mount options for example.

The coco emulator is a coco 1/2 emulator, and doesn't support the coco 3 functions.
The image you are using requires a 512k coco3.

I think we need a little more info before info before we can help you. How are you connecting to the Pi and stuff like that.

I do see your point on why it doesn't make sense. I had to read through it a few times. I didn't know it was still an outstanding bug, maybe when it's squashed it will make proper sense. I am using an IPAC as input. It's the only input I have connected but when I go into Input Configuration it shows 5 devices detected though. I was assuming since I am loading drivers for 4 controllers as default through the RetroPie Setup--Option 829 (Xbox / Xbox 360 gamepad driver) and one IPAC are the makeup of the 5 devices I hope.

It's been a whole lot of years but I originally went to school for programming and mainly worked with the wordy COBOL, RPG, Fortran and a bit of C for doing simple conversions of data. Basically I would read comma, space or whatever delimited data into a structure with a subscript, rearrange the data and save it back out. Then import it into shipping systems like UPS, FedEx. Basically it was names, addresses, city, state, etc. I can follow a bit or least some of it makes sense.
