I managed to puzzle a bit within the RetroArch menu (hotkey+north within the game), inside the core options, and restarting ES after each change. Might polish a bit more.

It came down to assuring the 1x resolution and some extra texture options for preference. It doesn't beat Mupen64plus graphics yet, but it is damn close right now.

I could also push the 4:3 top and bottom scaling within the glideN64 core options, no more black borders.

Hi! I just ran into this myself, and thought I'd post this for anyone else who had this issue to give an alt method, If you want to configure it with the GUI (which may be easier). It takes a few steps, and you will need a mouse.

install Desktop in Raspconfig
2 use the dekstop terminal to run QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb /opt/retropie/emulators/dolphin/bin/dolphin-emu
3 configure your controller
4 important- while you are here, configure your hotkeys as well. Dolphin does not recognize the normal hotkey /exit button, it uses its own.

You can edit both GC and Wii controls this way

@Arrafart Those are great controllers by the way. I have the old set (US and Japanese) with the corresponding color patterns on the buttons, before Nintendo forced 8-bitdo to change them :-(. I actually set RetroPie up with them easily. I wanted to try the Xbox 360 controller out. I also use the WiiU Pro Controllers as well.

Isn't it that you can enter the retroarch menu from within a game and set input to mirror analog stick from dpad?

Wow, this hardware is also already retro. However, it can be refurbished for the 2020s.

For the Pi 4 or 5 there has been recently a thread https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/36439

If smooth N64 emulation is a must then it is a Pi5.

The current IPAC won't work. But if you are satisfied (also in terms of inputlag) you can use a IPAC for USB. You can also wire the GPIO directly as you have 12 buttons per player. I recently released a project which is compatible with the Pi5 (and earlier).

You will also need some adapters between the Pi's micro HDMI and the monitor connection (VGA, DVI, regular HDMI). Driving a CRT is a different story.
For the Pi 5 you will also need an USB audio device (any C-Media compliant stick will do).

I made sure my saved .svg was version 1.1 and all elements used the same SVG namespace. Occasionally editors add namespaces inconsistently. I copied the namespace from the original.

And also i made sure the svg had the exact width and height as the original (not responsive).
Keep in mind that the background is black so contrast your colours accordingly.

That'll entirely depend on what you mean by "well" and the MAME version you are using. Using a pi zero might impede your choice about that. For the reminder, older MAME versions will be less likely to be accurate (i.e. faithful to the original game), and the newer versions usually require better machines.

unfortunately its not. you have to run it from command line and pick the scripts that are then installed to the ext folder

i would like for a way to run the installer from the Retropie-setup. i just have not messed with it yet
but good to know once i do figure that out.

for now i think looking at the version file might be the way to go.

I found it!!!

The file ~/configs/all/videomodes.cfg contained

Lr-psx-rearmed = "HDMI-1:0x41"

I removed it and the warning was gone.

Not sure how it got there or if it is crucial for some PSX games, but I'm happy today! 😁

EDIT: you can delete the /opt/retropie/supplementary/sdl2 folder and the RetroPie script will 'forget' about sdl2 and it will think that it's using the system's SDL2 so it won't try to update it.

Great suggestion... this way I think it's like I never installed this package.
