@darknior I don't think our script is what you need then. You might want to look into Skyscraper that muldjord is working on. I can't remember if he ever added the ability to use our synopsis or not, but he was willing to do it.

The script that meleu's been tweaking does it all. There's no way to just convert the synopsis.txt files to xml files with it. Even if there were, I don't know how this would save you any time.

I'm afraid that you're going to end up spending tons of time making xml files that you don't need to. It really doesn't take that long to follow the instructions and set up your media correctly. You can then run the script and let the pi make every gamelist.xml for every system that it currently handles. It would take about 16 hours on a Pi Zero and would probably be much quicker on a Pi 3.

Not bad, considering if I were to do it all by hand it would probably take me 2 or 3 thousand hours to write them.

It's up to you though. :)

necro post but just wondering if these found their way to the libretro thumbnails repo?

      https://github.com/libretro-thumbnails/libretro-thumbnails

might be worth looking into as it seems both sfc and nes are incompllete thus far

For informations, screenshot on screenscraper are in native résolution. Don't expect to have a full HD picture from a gameboy screenshot for exemple.

All picture you can found in 'better' quality are just a upscale of That.

Great work! I'll try to install it and maybe adapt it to Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive and Atari 2600.

      Thanks!

@paradadf Read your reply too late, haha! I found a cover pack and matched the filenames to the images the scraper downloaded. Didn't take that long. Now the Neo Geo covers look far better than the rest of the game systems... :)

Another added to the collection this evening. Quite a poor quality UK scan, so pleased with how it came out:

I recreated the logo in Illustrator too. I did create a second vector to use as a white drop shadow on the logo, as I was working on the logo from a US box originally-didn't realise there was no white drop shadow on the UK box until I'd finished. I added the drop shadow filter in PS, which doesn't make it as dark as the original as you can still see some of the white, but I don't think it looks too bad. And, you don't really see the box blown up full screen anyway, so I'm not too fussed. I dropped the really badly placed screen shot too, it's not uniform to the other UK boxes and looks so out of place-i think it looks better without it.

It's not 100% accurate-time will tell if I can live with the differences or not!

      :: Edit::

Yeah, couldn't leave it. Done it with the black drop shadow-I think it works better:

So... i found this topic searching for the same question paffley did... and while the solution for him was to use the "marquee" category, I wanted instead to keep marquees showing, and displaying screenshot and boxart on my theme's video view for the games that doesn't have video. So, I was in need of a third set of displaying artwork... and after searching a lot, I found it on the development fork of EmulationStation!

For those that, as me, ended up here, here it goes the "workaround":

you have to install "emulationstation-dev" instead of the default "emulationstation" for it; then you need to change the resource (probably a repeated "image" field on the same position and size of the "video" field) on your theme to the "thumbnail" tag (i used ComicBook theme for this example, on the video view); lastly, after scraping (i used skyscraper), on gamelist.xml, change your boxart XML tag to "image" and your screenshot XML tag to "thumbnail" (i did a replacing macro on notepad++).

Tested here and works flawlessly! You don't have to switch exactly the same XML tags, it's only an example of how I did mine.
