@jareth247 You should open a new topic and provide the latest update log, as described in this topic. And please also add more information about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

This is not implemented, you either update all installed or individually.

No, no, I get it. I wanted the optional emulator anyway but the problem is clearly with the roms/images and not with the emulator. I appreciate the kick in the right direction.

I was pretty sure I installed the supergrafx emulator but it wasn't showing up when I was selecting it in the list. After installing it manually from the source it came up as selectable and showed the problem was not emulator related.

I only own pi's and a cheap pc with RetroPie installed so i wouldn't be too much help when it would come down to using a TinkerBoard.
But i am sure there might be a video tutorial of something that got it working which you could follow what that person has done and see if you get it working for yourself.

If RetroPie has os on it can I flash RetroPie image?

@koogelpotato Not without overwriting your existing OS. If you already have Raspbian installed, you don't need to flash the image, you can install RetroPie manually - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/.

@herb_fargus said in How to install retropi on arch system since apacman has been dropped?:

Not to be rude but generally those using arch know their way around Linux enough to sort things out.

I am unsure what you implying here/ what the message is . Do you intent to say that I should know the process of setting up a retro pie system in Arch since I use Arch. And should be well versed in matters concerning Linux so that when issues arise I could handle that myself . Maybe you can clarify your statement.

Is there a reason you aren't using a Debian based distro?

The wiki guide really was just a hodgepodged method of installing retroarch and emulationstation, not really retropie. Retropie was developed primarily for Debian based systems

The benefit is that Arch is an rolling release and the package management in Arch is something prefer.

Suggest your power supply. A compatible power supply and one that is GUARANTEED to give the extra power the PI3B+ needs are very different

I could buy an adaptor here in UK for cheaper than you paid that claims to be 2.5A but under load would drop drastically causes no end of grief. Great for low power device like charging mobile phones but hopeless for a high power device that NEEDS a good steady supply like the PI3B+.

People seem to rate the CanaKit 2.5A power supplies, maybe look for them

      http://www.wirelesshack.org/what-is-a-good-power-supply-for-the-raspberry-pi-3.html

I personally bought an official 2.5A power supply for the PI3B I have, a lot more expensive than a 'standard' power supply I could have usually bought, but its never given me any complaints after reading power supplies can give lots of strange problems as they work then don't or random errors

My set-up doesn't stress the supply in any way and never had had weird instructions,. I'm overclocked to the limit, running a 1TB USB powered external hard drive for RetroPie, running OSMC for KODI and running a USB powered wireless dongle for the PS3 compatible joypad, plus USB keyboard. All works fine, plus a tiny fan to keep the huge heatsink cool

@andrewh The Go binary installation is downloaded from https://storage.googleapis.com/, so you might want to whitelist it in your PiHole installation. Glad you got it sorted out.

@zerojay I've been using compression for years now admittedly on arch though which means I may have
had a newer version of btrfs then is in debian currently this whole time.

Quite a few power outages during that time its been as a whole 100x more stable then my experience with XFS ever was and that gets recommended for extremely large data deployments (don't know why XFS eats data on any system I've used it on).

My raspberry has the same disk size as my main desktop SSD, 128GB is a little cramped by modern standards but I don't think I'll be riding 90% the whole life of my Pi.

Might be harder on microsd's but frankly isn't ext4 itself known to be extremely rough on microsd storage as well?
Its complained about when it comes to android phones but they just don't expect the phone to be around long enough for it to be a problem.

Fragmentation might be a valid argument but I've never noticed a issue with it, still seems as snappy as when I first put the filesystem on my system.

Just did a fragmentation scan on my drive besides a couple files with 19 and 54 extents 99% of them are sitting at 1 extent.

Thanks, I'm trying out the fonts.

By the way, for anyone missing the cursor in MC: in my case, exiting EmuStation and running "mc" from the terminal makes the cursor visible. Perhaps it's ES that hides it.

for me the problem was the cpu/cyclone git either failed on 443 or it was intentionally trying to use tcp-9418 which was blocked by my firewall. I gave it temp any-any-allow rule and it made it through the install.
