Sorry for the late reply. I've actually ported the nes theme over to my snes mini theme and that supports a 4:3 mode in the config file. More info here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/12583/snes-mini-theme/708

Well I have update a bunch of ES themes today and Futura V Text on bottom lists if you have a bunch of games the text cuts half off.

@paffley the doc says it's not used, not sure about the code.

Is there an easy way to increase the font size for the game list? I am running on a 3.5 inch screen and game names are too small to read.

Unfortunately, I am technically not so talented to create a theme. ;-) Thanks for the link, that is already a start. Must times look whether it is still current and perhaps further processed. Thank you.

Yes the method from meleu and me needs heavy handwork. I hope that pjft and Zigurana can do an integreated system. For myself I'm happy with my coding - I often did not challenged in the mame rows because I forgot the week winner title :(

@sirkreuab you need to change ownership of your /opt/retropie/configs folder back to user pi. Go to the terminal (command line) and type

sudo chown -R pi:pi /opt/retropie/configs

Remember linux is case sensitive, so the R is in caps but nothing else

The new theme Cygnus -Blue flames is also great for small screens ( 5 inch and more)

@DJKatastrof, thank you for the details. Sounds like I should check into the background tiling. I'll play with that over the weekend.

Regarding image size - yup I was referring to boxart/screenshot images scraped for each game. Sometimes I have seen larger ones cause stuttering when moving between games in the list.

If you up for sending me the theme yes that would be awesome and helpful to compare. And vise versa if you want any help sorting through z-index items or other theme aspects don't hesitate to ask either.

@jdrassa Yes it's already half here, my suggestion was to keep pushing it forward.

My propositions regarding the sounds are the following :

Add the "scroll" sound to follow the same syntax as "back" and "select", write as deprecated the "scrollSound" element of the textlist. The "back" sound is only triggered when going out of a folder, it should confirm the user canceled an action/is going back, so it should also trigger when the user leave a game list view to come back to the system view. Either extend the "launch" sound like the "back" or just keep this one to launching game and add a new "confirm" or "validate" sound. Add the possibility for the theme to extend the sounds to the menu (or use separate sounds for the menu) by allowing the following syntax : <view name="menu">
