@clockwork42 you are correct if the game originally supported joystick control then your analog stick on your controller will work fine.

I believe these are the lines you need to look at.
In this file --> dosbox-SVN.conf

Found here --> /opt/retropie/configs/pc

fullresolution=
aspect=
scaler=

Use your monitor's native resolution for the first option.
Use aspect=true, if you want the correct aspect ratio - after scaling. False, if you want it stretched to fill your monitor.
scaler=XXXX - XXXX=your scaler of choice...none, normal2x, normal3x, advmame2x,....etc... Use this to scale the image.

@d12a13 i have all the different s3 drivers installed on my “c:” drive that i use in dosbox. Wouldnt hurt to try to install the actual drivers.

Are you sure you have enough free space on the SD card ? Please add the information requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, including the error message you're receiving with trying to install the packages.

@spyork i have encarta running in windows 3.1 in dosbox on the pi. I believe it is the “designed for wondows 95” version

The best chance of success is to use RetroPlay's WHDLoads as this is what the Amiberry WHDLoad Booter has been designed for. The name of the WHDLoad I am using for SWOS is SensibleWorldOfSoccer9697_v1.7_0842.lha.

I wouldn't recommend using floppies - check the page for Loading from Disks (ADF) at the Amiberry wiki.

I uninstalled and reinstalled DOSBox with the dispmanx SDL1 backend and it corrected my issue with screen tearing.

please ignore/delete this thread (sorry) it seems I've worked it all out using SGM-V2.01.sf2 and i'm cool with that. Apologies for wasting anyones time.

There is also the Free Heroes 2 engine (Fheroes2) that you can compile on Raspbian and make it work. I have succesfully tested it both in Raspbian desktop(X11) and in Emulationstation. It runs best in Raspbian desktop(X11) since running it in Emulationstation is too slow in speed.

I might as well create an install script like i did with Hexen 2 Hammer of Thyrion source port.

By using the Free Heroes 2 engine you will not be needing dosbox as this will run Heroes 2 natively through the source port.

I found a way to get it running.

I have the eXoDOS collection and it includes the CD version of the game - I only have the floppies. Floppy versions are also what you'll find on abandonia, etc...

I extracted the file MELODIC.BNK from the ISO and dropped it into the directory on the Pi. I set SOUND.exe to Sound Blaster 16 Asp A220, I7, D1. Then I ran DL.exe. It works perfectly.

Exited back to Emulation Station and ran DL directly from the menu. Ran through a quick preset "Balanced", configured my two gamepads for the battles and sent my fire demon after a water demon. I dun kilt him ded!! Everything works perfectly.

BTW - this also worked with my laptop install too. So nice.

@mitu Thank for that info. I did remove the !kms and it build with no errors, but I get this when I try to run dosbox

@10vorne I dont have any experience running it on a netbook. Sorry! Maybe someone else more knowledgeable in that area might be able to help.

I'm glad you've gotten it sorted out. I started using .conf files to launch Dos games. What I do is enter dosbox command prompt from RetroPie and start the game from there, keeping track of the command I entered. Then I add those to commands to gamename.conf below [autoexec].

I use the games from eXoDOS collection since it uses the "best" version available. It also has a pre-configured *.conf file as well as all the game files pre-installed in it's own folder. You must make sure to change usescancodes=trueto usescancodes=false to make sure input works correctly. Other information will already be set up such as machine type (machine=vga) which can sometimes cause a headache trying to figure out.

Here is an example Star Trek - 25th Anniversary (1992).conf I based the autoexec off of another CD based game-Fallout 1.

I haven't tried this .conf yet but what I would do if it didn't work would be to try those commands manually and copy over the changes.

Lastly, sometimes entering setup again is all that is need.
