@hawkes_84 No problem, glad you got it sorted. Yeah, a you can see there is no single best solution for ZX, but Retroarch offers lots of ways to deal with it. And you figured out why Q & W don't work, congrats, this has annoyed me to no end back in the day.
@mitu Yeah the original process of the game is there's a key you hit to start when the audio track prompts you to, so the game and the audio track are sync'd up. I'm not 100% sure but I doubt the spectrum ever had a microphone add on.
It may be relevant that, while loading a zx spectrum game (other emulators are okay), a message pops up in the bottom left saying "100% xbox 360 controller not set-up " or very similar words. It may explain a lot of my issues, perhaps, although I don't know why it would say that for this emulator alone.
It could be that your have a custom RetroArch configuration for that particular Libretro core. Try renaming the /opt/retropie/configs/zxspectrum/retroarch.cfg file and then re-install lr-fuse to generate the default configuration.
@retropieuser555 I notice in your picture that the User 1 Device Type is set to Sinclair 1 Joystick. I tested this setting and Hen-House Harry moves to the left if I press the B button and to the right if I press the X or Y button even though I have nothing mapped to those buttons. Could you try selecting the User 1 Device Type to the Cursor or Kempston joystick?
Thanks guys - that sorted it. No idea what config files I've been finding and deleting until now, but that first location had the default.cfg and tons of seperate game ones too. Wiped them all, rebooted and mame seems to be fine now.
I'm having a similar problem with retropie (4.4) on lr-fuse (1.7.3). I can bring up the keyboard no problem with my Xbox 360 controller, and can move around the keyboard, but I can't get any button to actually select anything on the keyboard and see it passed through to the emulator. I can set the A button to move up in the embedded keyboard, but not to select a key press.
Any help much appreciated. I'm trying to get a few Speccy games working on a single joystick for accessibility purposes.
I think I added a reply to DudleyDes's post just before I saw you responded to this one, once sorted I'll be happy to go through and delete any clutter I've left in other peoples threads.. I would have rather sent a private message but could not even figure that out.
48k does show in the RGUI but all of the Roms that I have tried have not worked (maybe I was just very unlucky and had some bad roms, I'll try some others.) the game starts to load but then it just stops on the white Sinclair Research copyright screen and goes no further.
Could you point me in the direction of the "troubleshooting guidelines"? or by that did you mean following the advice you suggested with the Verbose logging? I will give this a try and post results in my own thread.
I'll figure out how to tag you in my thread and do that... Apologies this is all quite new to me!
rk but have had no success - how do you save configs per rom in lr-fuse? I essentially want to save the configuration so that it uses the 48k spectrum for certain games and 128k for others.
I have seen this link, but this doesn't work for me - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5409/jetpac-on-zx-spectrum
I have tried running a rom and the tried selecting the "save game overrides" in the RGUI I get a meesage that tells the file has been saved, but the configuration does not work and I can'f find where it has saved the .cfg
Main Menu > Quick Menu > Options > [change keyboard controls there] > [click on the top "Game-options file.... [name of game]... Took me ages to work that out.
I don't see how he is breaking the rules here. He wasn't asking where to get roms. He wasn't posting roms. All he asked is if it's possible alternate roms might work in his case when the one he has isn't playing. That's a reasonable question any newbie would ask and it isn't breaking any rules.
