Thanks for the tip, going to do that, have been working on my goal, wow did I just learn a lot. Took me a bit to figure out why when I commented out the most obvious parts, "Players:" moved to a slightly different spot rather than going away like everything else did. I'm on a test setup and have re-imaged several times, so I see what you mean about moving the file. Am I correct in assuming that I,m not really getting rid of the data, but moving it off the screen? Thanks!

funny that i came to retropie forum to post the same thing, lemme explain what i am going through

i have just switched from ES to AM for these reasons...

easy to filter game by number of players or catagory (a win for me) custom favorite sub menus ( games to play with wife and kid menue and another to play with friends for example) easier to theme game display (getting the number of players and game description on screen is satisfying)

with that, i noticed that scraping usually a pain for these type of info (i believe the box art and video preview is easier to find at the moment)

my problem is i have not find a single rom manager to easy manage different type of system roms (on PC) that can pull info from the internet direct and save them directly to gamelist and romlist directly

i use to have the same problem years ago with my movie collection, till i found this app,
      https://www.mediacentermaster.com/

if anyone has a suggestion or willing to work on this, it will make alot of gamers happy

@subz No worries man I appreciate you coming back to say you got it sorted. The forum is here for people to search first and foremost. Most people find a solution and then never come back, not caring about those that come behind them.

Hi @mediamogul @herb_fargus @wmodes ! Since I've had so much help from everyone on this site getting my own Pie setup, I wanted to go ahead and share my zmachine gamelist along with scraped data that's mostly complete as far as I know.

      http://www.mediafire.com/file/uww54ob9zq3aa12/zmachine_gamelist_v01.zip

Obviously goes without saying this doesn't include the actual roms, but if you have your own should be fairly easy to get stuff in the right place. Let me know if anyone has thoughts on improvements. Thought about videos for example, but seems like overkill given that it's a text based game ;)

      @jdrassa
my hacky perl involved reading the rating and path of every game
it then creates launch scripts for any game with non-zero ratings under a new emulator "ichiban"
i'm pretty sure the xml is fully parsed

i'll dig a little deeper when i get a chance
but saving gamelists is a cpu-bound operation
      ie, the bottleneck is not:
reading the xml (which are only a few megs at most)
      querying the filesystem

Would it be useful to also add an option like that to the built in scraper?

I built the latest ES from source and it still saves just fine on roms that are scraped and roms with no metadata entered. I also would have noticed this problem when doing my initial tests for my long exit time fix.

@pjft I ended up doing a complete reinstall of everything. It never did happen after that. I originally cut down on the number of systems I used so that might have helped, but once I scraped everything I tried to not go into that menu anymore lol. But with all the new improvements and no more white screen of death I assume it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Good to see people's interest! I'm having a hard time with Super Nintendo as the number of games is just insane for that system!!! Yet I'm making progress and I won't let it go before it's 100% done.

By the way if you know some good places to get box arts in good definition for that system that would be great. Especially the Japanese box arts as they're extremely hard to find in decent quality. Thanks!
