@pumpkinrat The settings for ES should be in /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_settings.txt, you can modify it with the nano editor from the terminal. You can check the ES start log from /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_log.txt to see if any errors are logged.

      @CYBERTUGAGAMER
Thank you. Probably you should add the system manually on the es_systems.cfg if you cant see it on the menu.

Overlays is totally what you're after @jason. It's a feature of RetroArch/Libretro so a large number of emulators available with RetroPie will have it available.

I've started compiling a list of links for customizing RetroPie builds. The overlays and shader section may be of help for sourcing overlay artwork.

I figured out how to do this.

In case anyone is interested or cares, I just added the emulators.cfg info from /opt/retropie/configs/residualvm into the scummvm emulators.cfg from here /opt/retropie/configs/scummvm.

I then copied the grim-win.rvm into /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/scummvm and also edited the es_systems.cfg so ScummVM included .RMV files.

Nice, it looks pretty. But it seems that it has no support for the video and kidgame tags.

@ectoone Aha! I changed it like you said and changed the color to 00000000 for good measure, and it worked just great. This will make me feel less weird about including multi-disc games. Thanks so much for your help!

To create "genre" grouped roms, I'd duplicate an existing system (e.g. Arcade), rename it to the "genre" you like, replace system logos and place the roms in a dedicated folders.
Edit runcommand for the different roms accordingly.
Sure there are more clever ways to do that but this is quite easy and quick.

Do you just want a different image for each system or do you want a random image for a single system?
Anyway, as far as I know there is no way to randomize any value that can be used as path/filename to images.
Having a different image for each system can be done by either using the system folder theme.xml or by using variables as paths/filename.
If you need/want to have different colors for each system as well, you have to use the old system folder theme.xml otherwise I would suggest to use variables.

Has anyone gotten this to work? I see there are video tutorials regarding getting art on systems however this is a "Collection" and could draw from multiple systems and emulators. When just adding a system with new art there are ROM folders for the ROMS...this won't have that. Anyone have a solution yet for this? (Im trying to add art to the Tronkyfrank themes "collections" but can't figure it out.

@valhalla_pi I couldn't find it at first but I found the lines were there in carbon.xml, not in theme.xml.
Like you said, I only had to change the showSnapshotDelay into true and add the extra delay line. Works!

      Thank you.
