I believe I found what I was looking for. Have to do a few more tests. It was something called "PDF to Image" that just one dude made and he offers it for free, and it's portable so you don't have to even install it.

I was able to take a 26MB PDF of a magazine and turn it into over 2GB of PDF files using 600DPI. Way overkill and not what I'm looking for. lol

I'll have to try out the 300DPI and 72DPI settings and see what happens.

calibre is a good one, if that doesn't work out

When I face such situation I search at google and it works really fine. I just use "retropie" as the first term searched.

I don't think this is needed in ES. Sselphs scraper frontend has append option included btw.

@lilbud it would seem like a good idea if doing theme development to get a keyboard.

@red2blue It does resize them if you wish, correct.

That being said, if you lack ideas on the use of that real estate, browse the theme gallery and see what others may have done, or what ind of info you can present.

Some images may be taller (boxart), which may fit well there, but some other boxart is horizontal, so won't be ideal.

But keep experimenting!

@Capeman That's true but isn't that the same for some of the other options? If the option was included it would at least be noticeable that it's possible to deactivate the splashscreen.
I only found out that is possible to do so because someone mentioned it in some thread which I was luckily watching for some other reason.

It's going to be rather annoying if you plan on "clarifying" your point every time this comes up (And it won't have the effect you want ).

I'm saying you need to be very clear that selling ROMs isn't inherently illegal when you talk about this. These companies know what they're doing is illegal and usually wrong as well but public perception on the legality of ROMs and emulators in general matters. Nintendo in particular has been spreading misinformation about this for decades because they want more control over the future of technology to belong to megacorporations like them and to change the law to make projects like RetroArch actually illegal. Just saying "selling ROMs is illegal" normalizes this impression which would make passing laws to that effect much much easier for them.

I think if RetroPie was to distribute a facility to download ROMs that are legally in the clear, this might help dispel the misconception that sharing ROM files is inherently illegal.

@jdrassa This method seems to work great if the UI modes are not in use but if it's set into Kiosk mode the es_settings.cfg reverts to an unmodified state after reboot. Does enabling the Kiosk mode overwrite the es_settings.cfg file? If so can I modify the Kiosk mode to include the splash screen setting?

When in the game list for a certain system, if you hit Select on a ROM, then edit metadata (or something to that effect), after the list of all the info the system has on a game (game name, ROM name, date, star rating, etc.) on the very bottom is "delete". Still super-time intensive if you have complete romsets of like 3,000+ games for a certain system, but the option is there at least.

For backing up configs, if you're ever made a USB stick with a "retropie" folder on it and inserted it into the Pi it'll make a "to" and "from" config folder for you - I've honestly always wondered how this works and exactly what it backs up, and if you edit a file on your PC, then insert it into the Pi if it automatically look at the dates of the two identical files then overwrite the older version of the two or what...

it's not beyond a possibility. uoyabause runs well on arm phones of similar specs. the problem is that the pi only has GLES 2. 3 is required for it.
