@thelostsoul Just a quick answer to that (and apologies to everyone for the off-topic posts): Until Minecraft 1.14, getting cats was very difficult, because you'd have to befriend a wild ocelot with raw fish in one of the jungle biomes; this would turn them into regular house cats (one of MC's many strange laws of nature). But now, cats are a separate species that spawns naturally around procedurally generated villages. They are still shy, but way more trusting than the extremely timid ocelots.

@bleckman Look at how the Ports scripts are created - for instance Kodi - and you can replicate it to start the media player. Install Kodi, look at the kodi.sh script that it creates in the ports folder, and copy it and replace the Kodi start sequence with the command to start the program - from the author's instructions.

I apologize of course, but please note that I only used it for the Installation tools, not pirated content.

It read that way. Plus, it can be difficult to keep up with all the various copyright violators out there. Glad to hear the visuals are working for you.

@mitu Ok, now i just heard that i did have sound on my previews, even when i select games! It is just veeeeery low. The screensaver sound is still on the right volume level, so do not know why they differ, but i vill try to investigate.

      @Cascote
Solved: The issue lies on the Sample rate of the Mp3 file. It seems that Pygame is not able to correctly play anything that's not on 44100Hz Rate, so I Resampled the mp3s that were not on that rate using Audacity

@legacy said in Modified Background Music Script with added overlays!:

I click a game, the video loading screen kicks in and the music fades out.
Black screen appears to load the game, but the music kicks in for 1 second and fades out, then the game loads.
is there a fix for this. Thank you

I know, I know, you have probably solved this or not interested on it anymore, but for whomever needs it, I had this issue too, I solved it by adding the following lines at the end of the runcommands scripts:
      runcommand-onend.sh

      pkill -CONT python

      runcommand-onstart.sh

      sleep 1 pkill -STOP python

Check 1941 for the SuperGrafx, one of the 6 only games released for the console. Gameplay is updated with charged shots, but same in essence. You will love the music, it’s got that distinctive TurboGrafx flavour with bright chip tunes.

'Revolution X' with Aerosmith is another one. On top of having a wonderfully absurd premise, it's also a great rail shooter.

Btw, This issue looks like it's resolved in the libretro pcsxrearmed core. There is an option listed for "Diablo music fix" in the retroarch menu which I would assume takes care of the issue.

      I got it to work.
      I used these steps instead:
      http://www.pretendo.online/2017/01/25/adding-background-music-to-emulation-station/

Works great! You can easily edit stuff in the bgmusic.py file , like startsong and add missing emulators to mute the sound for.
I stuck my Pi in a Playstation 1 case, so my Pi-station is pretty much done now:

@addison milkdrop is not supported on the Pi. Shadertoy is really the best you can get atm. This needs to be installed via the command line. See 6.1 http://kodi.wiki/view/Ubuntu_binary_add-ons.
So run sudo apt-get install kodi-visualization-shadertoy Waveform and Spectrum also run on the Pi

Thank you @zerojay ! This is tremendous. Very easy to install, and after a minor issue with the vgm directory permissions, was able to get everything up and running....kind of.

Few issues below. Any help would be much appreciated.
*Update Recreating the autostart.sh file fixed issues 1 and 2.

Both the playmusic.sh and generatem3u.sh scripts are running without issue, but music will not start automatically after boot. I can start it by running the playmusic.sh script from the command line (or via ssh), but it only plays through HDMI port. I don't see anyplace in the vgmplay config file to point it to the Headphone output on RPI4. The playlist does not loop. Playback terminates after reaching the last item in the m3u file.

I apologize for abandoning this thread for so long... you see I had some trouble compiling it on macOS the past month and someone just recently solved the issue for me - there were NO known macOS binaries on the internet for a few months so I couldn't test it locally on my computer

Thank you all for resolving this issue now! Sadly, I can not reproduce this solution on either macOS or Windows... but that is another matter...

@BuZz - so would it be possible to push a new symlink for this into the repo?

I won't be using mpg123 as it has no real ability to control playback. I have something better in mind.
